You can try putting on a locking cover, or hinged cover that doesn't fall off like the rubber ones. Some new axes come with the clickable covers.

Q: How much weight can this thing hold?

Exact weight I don't know. I have a 2 handed machete in one set and a Boar Spear in the other. They are pretty stout though, 1/8 in powder coated mild steel.

Q: Will this work with another brand of roof rack?

It is intended to only work on Yakima Loadwarrior or Megawarrior.
