Q: Is there a clip or lip under the tray for holding the tray in place when opened up?

The answer is NO. Although there is a bar that keeps it from coming apart there is no clip that holds the sliding mechanism in place

Q: Are these heavy or lightweight? I have a set right now that are super heavy and am looking for something easier to carry. Thanks!

These tables are very heavy. You could carry one of them ok, but all of the pieces together would be quiet heavy. I am very happy with our set.
