24: Trial by Fire: A 24 Novel (24 Series, 3)

A kinder, gentler Jack Bauer...of sorts.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I have been a fan of the 24 series for a number of years, and I've read several of the books penned after the series officially ended. This one is a bit different from your traditional 24 novels in that it features a young Jack Bauer on his first mission with the CIA. If you've watched the 24 series at all, you know the kind of man Jack can be - take charge, take no prisoners, show no mercy. This isn't that Jack. This Jack Bauer is a man who is actually squeamish at the idea of torturing someone for information. That's not to say that the character is poorly written - it's not, by any means. This story lays the groundwork for the kind of man Bauer will become in the future. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to see what Jack was like in his early days as an operative.

Great follow up to Rogue
I loved this book and would recommend it to any fan of the series. Great writing and strong character development made this story well worth a read. Read the others first but I would totally recommend this to any readers or fans of the tv series. I can't wait for the next book to release.

Good book.
The book is good. It does not have much of the suspense that makes 24 unique but it is worth reading.

A BRAND NEW ADVENTURE IN THE 24 SERIES
Another smash hit from Dayton Ward, this time writing in the 24 universe. It's a BRAND NEW 24 novel, and explores new territory in the life of Jack Bauer. Fans of the show will really dig this, as it gives you another serving of something you love. Also, be sure to check out the other 24 tie-ins that are equally as satisfying.Loved this book. Hope Dayton gets to write another one! How do you know if I'm telling the truth? in the words of Jack: "You'll have to trust me!"

Great new 24 novel from a favorite author!
I've always loved Dayton's writing as I am a huge fan of his Star Trek novels. I hadn't read a 24 novel before, but I was a fan of the show.Long story short, Dayton has knocks it out of the park with this one! Love the story and how it showcases the early years of Jack Bauer!Definitely recommend.

Well worth a read!
This is not your traditional 24 story because it's set before the 24 TV series and portrays Jack as still a new agent - before he became the unstoppable "Rambo" of the show.Dispite this, it actually still feels recognisable as Jack and it's a testament to the author that setting a 24 novel abroad, with none of the regulars and a pre-tv Jack can still feel "24-ish".I won't drop any major spoilers but the main plot focusing on Jack dovetails nicely with the parts focusing on the villains, the main law enforcement characters, and the subplots. The action whizzes along at pace but is made all the more interesting because all the characters involved are distinctive and you genuinely care about what happens to them.To sum up, it IS different from the TV show but it's a well written book with action, suspense, with interesting characters and a good pace. What more do you want? Definitely worth a read.
