Brilliant book
Mr. Mertens demonstrates extensive experience as a profesor in properly explaining some very complex concepts. As stated, it is a good reference for experts and students alike. However, those without technical backgrounds must be prepared to make consistent efforts with background references while reading the book to follow the explanations. Having said that, reading this book while making that effort will lead to a substantial understanding of PVs and their operation.

the English translation reads like a Google Translate version
The original German text is very comprehensive and relevant, I would give it 4-5 stars. However, the English translation reads like a Google Translate version. There are countless examples in the text of very poor translation, clearly having been performed by a non-native speaker.

Nice Introduction to the Topic
The book is a nice introduction to the field of PV especially for laymen. Sometime is becomes obvious that the author is a native German speaker due to the fact that some used phrases in English do not make sense until you translate them back to German. A professional translator might have done the trick.Nevertheless, the book is definitely recommendable!
