Thorogood Mens 8" FLYWAY USA BRN W/P Boots

I was looking for a good quality, uninsulated boot for summer hiking. Never owned Thorogood before (Danners, Mendels, Rocky, Cabelas were what i wore in the past.) Boots arrived and were obviously high quality and well made. The leather was a bit stiff out of the box so i have been breaking them in daily. They get broken in fast. They fit me well. Seem to be sized properly compared to others i have worn. The tread is not aggressive looking...BUT after a few times walking in the woods on steep leafy hills to muddy paths...the tread is great. Great grip and really seems to shed the mud well. I am no longer tracking clumps of dried mud throughout my garage. The soles flex well when walking. And the best feature...they are grippy on smooth surfaces like wet rocks and wooden decking/stairs. My other boots...well, let's just say if you stepped onto a wooden bridge in the woods or a slick rock, you most likely were taking your life into your own hands. Slick as ice. These Thorogood's however, amazing grip. LOVE that about them. The laces seem stiff to me...BUT they really tie well and "stick" when pulling them tight and tying a knot. Have come to like them. They are comfy right out of the box, but the leather is stiff and one would do themselves a service breaking these in gradually over a few days. I did and i am already noticing an improvement in the leather getting more flexible. I can imagine it will only get better. Have waded streams and they seem fully waterproof. One thing to note, on my other brand boots, i can just slip my feet in while standing. These ones however, i have to use the loop to pull on the boots. A bit stiff but once on perfectly comfortable. I believe because of this they have good ankle support. Another small benefit...because they are tighter to get on, there is not as much tongue leather to have to fold up (remember they are waterproof so the tongue leather goes up high) when tying, so that seems to be nice. Have had them a month now and have worn them at least 25 times...assuming they last a long time i will be buying more Thorogood boots in the future.

I've been wearing these for my daily work boots for a few weeks now. After a little breaking in they fit very nicely and feel like they support my feet quite well. I've had less foot and back pain since swapping from my old, worn out boots.These look great in person and the distressing of the leather don't take away from how good they look. It will take time to see how well these hold up since I expect 10 years from these boots. But I have already gotten compliments on them.Be sure to look at the website boot fit guide. I usually wear a men's 10 but for these I had to order a size 9. However I used the guide from Thorogood's website and they are almost perfect for my feet. I don't get wet in the rain or puddles and my feet are not getting too cold in the snow and not too hot on warmer days. We'll see how the summer goes.Obviously 300 is a high price for boots but these are excellent quality, all top grain leather, brass and quality even stitches. They even showed up in less than a week. Worth a consider for a person on their feet all day.

After a decade + of Redwings it was time to buy a boot more easily traced as USA/ Union made and assembled as Redwing seems to be going the way of the "American" auto manufacturers. The Flyway series plays to rave comfort reviews among other things and to start the comfort out of the box is second to none. It is easily one of the most comfortable, no break in boots I've put on.I have a 10 "D" or medium width foot. The fit is true and I've been cycling between a heavier weight and medium weight sock to nail down the perfect feel. Both are comfortable. Cushioning and comfort walking on rock and concrete is excellent. Climbing up and down ladders and walking on slick surfaces creates no problems for the outsole. It is too early to tell how the durability will rate but it does seem the softer leather will be prone to damage sooner than a stiff leather Redwing type boot. Water proofing is perfection. Accidentally put my foot in a puddle nearly up to my knee and everything from my knee to the top of the boot was saturated. Top of the boot down was dry.Right off the bat the only thing I would change and did change were the original laces. They are just not good. Get something tougher that locks and holds the boot together better when you tie it. I found a replacement pair of redwing laces from an 8" boot that work perfectly and get the boot to the snug feel I was looking for.All told, this is a great product right out of the box and I hope they last.
