Purdey and Sons is the best maker of bespoke guns.There are many houses that are making great guns and a visit to The SCI convention in Reno only goes to show how many great gunmakers there are. I saw scores of guns over $100K and most were extraordinary. Purdey's is still the greatest name in the business. If you want to know how this gunmaking house achieved it's success and want to understand the "Purdey Way" of making guns this book is a must have. A coffee table book? Yes. It's a detailed history of the Purdey family and it's business and as such is quite detailed. The photography and it's description of individual guns and gunmaking proceedures used to make a Best Gun are excellent. If you want to understand what a best gun is and what goes into it's creation this is a great single source. It's a necessary book to have if you own a Purdey or someday hope to own a Purdey. For the rest of us the book is reward enough in itself.

A great History. Sort of expensive but worth every cent when doing research on Purdey shotguns. I'd buy it again and will not resell this book for anything. It is so very informative in all aspects of the Purdey and make you really see whey the Purdey is such a valuable shotgun. Go for it and put it in you library. Mine is marked up, highlighted and read. Very good gook.

An authoritative review of a fascinating subject. An outstanding balance between the history (in depth), the people, the arms themselves and what made them so special.A must have for those passionate about the subject

This book, together with "HOLLAND & HOLLAND - The Royal Maker" "and "BOSS & Co.", must not miss in the library of a collector or keen on English guns, produced by Firms that have done the history of such weapons. The historical news are well documented and the photos of the weapons very beautiful. Besides, the references to the brevets and the factory data on characteristics, numbers of register, et cetera, are a possible and handy source when looking for rifles and shotguns on sale in the market of the used ones and in the auctions.Surely it deserves five stars.

Das ist wirklich DAS ultimative Purdey-Buch. Wer bei dem mittlerweile vergriffenen Buch des ehem. Purdey-Vorstandes Richard Beaumont Abbildungen von Purdeywaffen vermißt hat, kommt hier nun voll auf seine Kosten. Sämtliche Purdey's von der ersten Waffe sind anhand ihrer Waffennummer ihrem Herstellungsjahr zuzuordnen.Was leider fehlt sind die hauseigenen Patronenentwicklungen Kal. .246, .400/.360, .369 und .400 Purdey N.E.Ein prächtiger Bildband, der den Besitzer einer Purdey genauso erfreut, wie den, der nur von einer Purdey träumen kann.
