Excellent
I'm SO GLAD to have this,it's amazing! Beautiful images and touching uplifting story examples of real people, who live with various unusual results from glitches in their womb-growth. I will watch this again and again in future. Highly recommend this!

Wonderful
Beautiful synopsis of how we developed before birth. While highly informative, it is not overly technical or dry, nor full of medical jargon. It shows the process timeline, with sidebars of real people living with the results of a process less than perfect. Should be viewed by every human. Once people could see how easily some sort of variation could just as easily have befallen them, it may make them a little more compassionate and less judgmental.

very informative
This film was, as is true, of most PBS films, excellent. It covered several rare genetic conditions which helps one understand how enormously complex the body is and what can go wrong. It also helps one realize, in spite of what can go wrong, it rarely does. Most all babies in the developed world are normal. What does go wrong is useful to understand the importance of genetics and modern medicine in correcting certain abnormal conditions. Most of the material covered I cover in teaching genetics, but the case histories put a live face on the condition at issue. One concern is, after explaining how well designed the human body is, it seems some PBS editor has to put a dig in about evolution and when we evolved from our putative ape ancestor eons ago. It appears that when the film was almost done some Darwinist said "we have to plug evolution somewhere, how about here?" The plug does not help the quality and interferes with the flow and good material.

Human life is amazing
i bought this DVD primarily to learn about the development of a human from a single fertilized cell to full-grown fetus. I learned some things that i didn't know previously, such as that for a number of weeks, all humans are female; male development doesn't occur until approximately 9 or 10 weeks. As a retired computer programmer, i find it amazing that the instructions for humans are "encoded" in the DNA in the single fertilized single barely-visible cell and work not only throughout fetal development but continue throughout the individual's lifetime of perhaps 100+ years. God is an awesome designer and creator.

My transgender spouse and I learned the "why" of his deep need to express the "her" inside.
This is a well-made, fascinating production. I can see why people having their first baby would be unsettled by this documentary. It's about all the things that happen in the womb to make us who we are--and the things that can go "wrong". The video is broken into three parts that roughly correspond with the three trimesters. I like the ultimate lesson: we are all different and we are all worthy of life. Some of us, born very different, have not just survived and coped with their differences, but triumphed in life.

Disappointing. Not enough biology.
Not a bad film, but not quite what I expected. I was hoping for more biology and less human interest story.Almost all of the stories are related to genetic/developmental disorders, some of which are very rare. So if you are not so afflicted, this is not exactly the 9 months that made you.The animations and photos of human development are disappointing. Many illustrations are used over and over---some in almost every segment. It looks as if the producers had a limited supply of such animations and illustrations. Some of these video portions are vague, and many are rendered with sparks and flashes and "zzzzzitt" sounds to make them "interesting."I'm quite sure that most of the students who viewed this didn't have an idea of what they were looking at. It wasn't very clear to me at times---and I teach biology. Some of the animated pieces seem to be randomly inserted just for effect---unrelated to the processes they attempt to illustrate, and not very accurate.."Miracle of Life" still outclasses this video in terms of explaining and illustrating what happens in the womb.My students did find some of the stories interesting, but the video itself is not particularly exciting or compelling.

Everyone over the age of 17 should watch this. ...
Everyone over the age of 17 should watch this. The wonder of the way life starts and prepares to live on his or her own is explained. Also explained the mechanisms required to make the baby who he or she will be. If you don't understand why some folks are heterosexualand some are not, and some are somewhere in between on gender assignment, you must see this. There are a number of factors that are involved in gender assignment. It's NOT a choice!
