Great for Bird Watching
My GF and I are extreme bird watchers, we have 20 cameras set up outdoors so we can observe a flock of ravens that live near us. Ravens are difficult to watch without cameras because they are very shy and fly away if they see humans watching them.I bought high quality miniature cameras (here on amazon) and mounted them in these enclosures. The enclosure has a nice little moveable sled inside, I attach my little cameras to the sled with 4" wire ties, this makes it easy to replace a camera or trade one out for a different model.Overall I have six of these housings out in the bird area and none have failed. The housing has enough weight that I can set it on a concrete block and it won't blow away in our afternoon wind which is typically gusting 15-30 mph. We don't get much rain out here in the Mojave desert but we do have a lot of dust blowing around. So far the camera housings have kept my cameras safe and working great.I just bought a couple more of these housings because they are so easy to open and mount miniature cameras in.I have found that a high quality miniature camera ($12-40) mounted in one of these housings can yield a much better picture than the IR bullet security cameras that typically sell for $30-45. You won't have I R night vision but in my case the birds roost and sleep at night so I don't need night vision. We have some of the bullet cameras too so we can watch some key areas of our property at night. These housings also mount to standard tripods, I use some $15 tripods I got here on Amazon to mount some of these cameras, this lets us move them around to different views.I don't know why the subject line says black, all the ones I've ever received look like the one in the picture which is sort of an off white cream color, typical security product color.Ravens are completely indifferent to when they defecate so invariably nearby camera's and housings are poo'd on. For bird watching this is actually a plus because the birds feel safe when they see their markings. I take a garden hose with a nozzel on it and spray the housings down to wash them off and there is no problem at all, the camera inside stays dry and safe and the housing shows no sign of wear or deterioration. In the first batch of these I bought I did not use them all right away and I discovered 6 months later that one of the housings had a broken glass lens. It was too late to return it for exchange, I consider it my fault for not checking so I'm not dinging them any stars. My advice is to open every box and inspect what you got even if you don't intend on installing it right away.I'll be back for more, that's the best recommendation I can give.

... the price but even then I was a bit disappointed. I use this thing to test prototype camera ...
I wasn't expecting much for the price but even then I was a bit disappointed. I use this thing to test prototype camera systems that I am working on so I don't mind the size of it and I kind of like the latch at the back that allows you to lift the entire top of the housing up for easy access. This is definitely not an outdoor housing. It does have a rubber foam lining for most of the area where the lid touches the base of the housing. The front and back end are plastic and don't fit all that well which will allow water to enter. There is also a ventilation mesh and the bottom rear end to the housing that will let water and moisture in. I glued this mesh shut, blocked up the hole for the cable and by applying a copious amount of silicone putty and stick-on rubber strips I was able to make it more or less rain proof. One small bonus is that the mounting plate at the bottom of the housing has three holes in it and the middle one will allow one to stick this thing on top a standard camera tripod.

I'd say good given the price
I'd say good given the price, but not exceptional. I'm not sure you can considerthis as 100% waterproof. On the one I received, the foam weatherstripping at the front of the camera doesnot fully seal against the metal upper hinged cover. I added some weatherstrippingto make that seal better. Also, there are weep /vent holes in the rear plastic piece at the bottom. With thehousing pointing downward, should any water get in the housing there is no placefor it to drain out (it would collect at the front). I will add some weep holes at thebottom of the front plastic piece to handle this possibility.I know I could return this, but I need to get a project wrapped up and no guaranteethat a replacement would be any better.
