Tilley LTM5 Airflo- a great everyday hat - carrying on the tradition of the LTM6 nd LTM3!
What else can be said about TIlley hats that has not already been said.First, the custom sizing down to an 1/8th of an inch is what originally got me hooked on Tilley hats. I have a semi-large, hard to fit 7 7/8 head, and for me the "One Size Fits All" of other hat makers usually meant it would not fit me. The fact Tilley offers hats with specific sizing is a nice feature, and makes it easy to order their hats sight unseen if you know your Tilley hat size. Their sizing is very consistent year after year and across their different models of hats. I own many Tilley hats purchased over a 23 year period, and they are all 7 7/8, and all fit pretty much the same.Next, Tilley just keeps on innovating and coming up with great products. They made their mark with the cotton duck T3, T4 hats, and kept on innovating - coming up with hats like this LTM5 (and LTM 6, LTM3, etc) which are made of nylon, virtually indestructible, and include an Airflo vent to help the nylon breathe. I also own Tilley's Hemp and Organic Cotton hats, which are also very nice hats!I started off personally with the T3 Cotton Duck in the mid 90's, and over time I tried the popular LTM6. At first, I thought I would not like nylon-based hats mainly because I typically wore natural materials like cotton. My head runs hot and other nylon hats were just too uncomfortable for long periods. But the Tilley LTM6 was different - due to the venting, the design the hat just plain ran cooler. Then, it was SO comfortable it became a desired hat for hiking. The LTM6 was great, and served me well - but it's larger brim made me look at other hats for "every day" type wear. I like the larger brim on the LTM6 for activities where I wanted maximum sun coverage - like hiking or yard work. But for more "around town" activities like running errands, I picked up the LTM5. It gave me all the benefits of the LTM series - the comfortable fit, the Airflo vents - and also gave me a more stylish look and a smaller brim that gets out of the way a little more than the LTM6.To complete the collection, I also added an LTM3 over time ;-) - so now I have a "hat trick" of LTM hats! I can't say enough how comfortable these hats are to wear! And the fact they are virtually indestructible makes them worth their premium price tag. If I lost any one of those hats, I would buy another to replace it.Highly recommended! Thanks for reading.

Solid hat that lives up to the manufacturer headings
First, the vendor. I’ve seen these complaints elsewhere. The packaging came such that the brim had folds. Annoying, but the hat recovered on its own. Plus, the vendor sent Khaki and I clearly ordered Olive. I did not send it back because I needed it and I had an event that was too soon for return turnaround. Khaki looks good too. Perhaps this was even a blessing. Not sure.Test one. I am a crew (rowing) coach. There were two full sunny weekends in Sarasota Florida that I needed this hat for. The wind clearly tested both the fit and the strap. The fit, I would have ordered an eighth smaller. It’s good, but I think it could be better. When I take the strap out of the flap inside the hat, I wish it were tighter. At the events, I once again failed to put sunscreen on my face at these two events. The hat did it’s job admirably. Not even a hint of sun issues.Plus, my kids all started calling me Indiana Jones. This is when I noticed that halfway thru the first weekend, the shipping folds in the brim disappeared.Test one verdict is a solid success. This is my new coaching hat. I started using it on the water in the coaches launch too.Test two was golf. I have been using baseball hats forever for golf, and they don't protect my ears. I’ve always been annoyed by other hats because they get in the way of my swing and they get hot. Not this one. The strap doesn’t even annoy me on windy days, which has been a huge problem with other hats like this. Plus, my friends all liked the look. And when their wives also like it, winner.Test three: Yosemite National Park. This trip is why I investigated this hat to begin with. My trip was in late May 2021 and we expected sun and mild wind. Requirements matching my crew coach needs: sun and wind. Sometimes life gets in the way. This is not even close to what happened. The week before we arrived, the lows were 40+ and highs were near 70. We showed up, low 25 to high of 50 depending on where in the park we were. Zero sun until the last day. Fog. Rain. Snow. Sleet. Harder snow. More snow. On my hikes, even with AllTrails we couldn’t find some of the paths because of the fresh snow. On one hike we got above the clouds and briefly found sun. Snow and sleet never did make my head wet. Snow collected on the brim and melted off. Never got wet. Wind kicked up, sideways snow, sideways hail. The strap worked like a champ and took seconds to deploy. It did not annoy me. Wind goes away and seconds to hide it again. Others in my group had their heads get soaked. Not me. They were changing hats or hoodies while I kept this. And it still looked good for dinner and kept my head warm on the walk thru town.I will almost certainly treat this hat over time with water repellant. Other than that, solid, solid performance.New to Tilley. Getting one for my wife. Probably a life long customer.

Great Looking Travel Hat
Received my Tilley LTM5 hat a few days ago. I can see the reason for all the good reviews - well constructed, lightweight, nice thoughtful touches, right sized brim for travelling, fits true to size (per Tilley chart), and looks great. The reason for my purchase is I wanted a nice hat that I could take on a trip to Europe next year, but didn't want to have to always carry a rigid hat (did that last time). Neither did I want to wear a packable boonie hat that looks like you slept in it. Unlike the floppy boonie hats I have, the sides and crown of this hat are just rigid enough to hold a nice shape - yet I still expect to be able to pack it easily. The Rock Face color I ordered looks great too - a nice shade of gray that should work well with any outfit. So, while expensive, I am quite happy with this purchase.I also want to thank Great Lakes Outpost for shipping this in a full size box! While I expect it to take some abuse in packing I was happy to see that it wasn't wadded up into a ball and smashed inside a plastic bag.
