Smooth transaction
The book was packaged very well and is an awesome addition to my collection. Added it to the coffee table and it has been engaging for everyone who noticed it.

The seller did a poor job being thoughtful
Who wants to purchase a book as beautiful as this to only have the seller place the barcode sticker right in the middle of the gorgeous cover ?? Very thoughtless and makes wonder if thereβs more to the actions !

EXCELLENT!!
EXCELLENT!!!! I love this book. I've not had any of my guests pick it up to peruse it though. This is such a shame. I was hoping the book would get more notice. But it hasn't so far. It may be because of the way I have it displayed (which is not actually on my coffee table). So folks may think that it is a poster or something. I don't know. At any rate, this is a good purchase.

Underwhelmed & Disappointed
I was expecting so much more from the photos in this book, but they were uncreative and boring, and it really just fell flat. One, I was expecting the book to be physically larger, like a big coffee table book. I'm a big fan of photography books, so I was amped for a book that would feature gorgeous photos of women who like me and my mother (this was supposed to be her christmas gift) I wanted beautiful editorial photos that highlighted the under appreciated and oft denounced beauty dark skinned women. I saw a reviwere who said she "doesn't get it", and any others who may question the need for sucn a book. Colorism is a big deal. It's a bigger deal to some than others, but colorism is very real and very painful. Some folks have been extremely blessed in having been shielded from it, as I largely have been as well. But I know it to be something extremely powerful, and it's dissmissive of others experiences to question it. But I digress.I was expecting the glamour of the cover to be reflected inside the book. But what this book gave, was largely uninteresting portraits of various women, that looked as if zero effort had been put forth in terms of styling or even the photography itself. I mean, portraits can be stunning when some thought is put into them, but most of the pictures may as well have been college graduation photos. They didn't capture their subject's spirit, they just showed a picture of a dark skinned woman. I can do that myself! While I appreciated that there was a mix of every day women/celebrities, I was a bit disappointed in the roster in general. There were many women who I expected to be featured who weren't, and the cover girl isn't even really in the book. She's just on the cover. Some of the essays from the featured women, were absolutely pointless, and sounded as if they were sound bites of an off topic conversation. I could go on and on, but really, I was epically disappointed by this book. ugh

Dark Girls Rock!!
I am a fan of table top books that promote interest and conversation. Bill Duke's "Dark Girls" did not disappoint. This book is well written and documented. I simply love this celebration of the various hues of darkness that we African-American women share. This book brings a renewed "I'm Black and I'm Proud" movement for the younger generation to know and embrace.Awesome book...buy one for you and friend; "I did!!"
