Cracking Codes and Cryptograms For Dummies

If you love cracking hard puzzles then you will absolutely love this book! There are many puzzles to crack yourself in this book and it teaches you about the different types of codes used in many different puzzles.

Based on the description I expected more in depth analysis of the solutions and instructions of how to solve cypher and codes. Instead I received another book of puzzles to solve. I was looking for something along the likes of "The Code Breakers" by David Kahn. To me this is not a great aid. Nothing against the book or Arthur, just not what I was expecting or looking for.

I find the book a helpful reference.

The book provided a variety of codes and revealed interesting stories and historical information through the coded messages. I would highly recommend.

I'm so pleased with this product!! I only cook with cast-iron and these handles are a must-have!!

All the "for Dummies" books are very informative and clear.

As a puzzle lover this book is very interesting with its ideas and theories. Lots stuff I didn't know before

I just bought the book. Thought it would be great to get the cheat sheet they mention on the inside front cover and it's not on their website. I do expect the book to be good otherwise.

This book is not for dummies, they spend to little of the book in making the ideas crystal clear and they are more excited about the "playing" part, only 20% of the book is techniques and theory the remaining (80%!!!!!!!) is puzzles, instead of guiding you through the book step by step like a dummy, they simply give a quick "catch up" and throw you into the cold water leaving you completely puzzled (I know its a puzzle, but I didn't buy this book only for the puzzles I bought it to learn how to solve the puzzles) about what to do, where to start, what exactly are you supposed to do, how to asses the situation, etc.Too little time spent teaching you the proper techniques, too much time spent teaching you the history of it and way too much time spent just putting puzzles into this incomplete book, very little information about the real deal, this book is equivalent to a book of Sudoku or a cross word puzzle book, in my opinion this book does not live up to the "for dummies" quality standard and it was written by someone that seems to think that teaching is speaking to your reader like if they were 8 year kids, the author lacks some ability to teach.

It's demanding enough for me in my efforts to understand ciphers and codes. Did you know the alphabet is a code. It's just that we're all using it to send messages to one another.
