This guidebook is a giddy mixture of history, jewelry, and royalty. It gives you a full description of the coronation ceremonies that take place when England crowns a new monarch and in that context reviews the history and finery of the crown jewels. It’s full of interesting facts: for example, I didn’t know that in the past the English monarchs would rent out jewels to set in their crowns solely for the ceremony, then return them to the jewelers. It’s well illustrated and a quick read but covers a lot of ground, discussing everything from individual diamonds to eye-witness accounts of coronation ceremonies throughout the history of England.
