Beware! Some sellers ship expired seed.
We've had great success with this seed but a recent order was fulfilled by As Seen on TV and not Scotts. It arrived in a repurposed Jolly Rancher box and the seed was EXPIRED. Bottom line, the product is good but not all size options come from the manufacturer, so check before ordering.

The grass is growing
I wrecked my yard last year not knowing what I was doing when I got a yard for the first time in my life.Reseeded this spring with this. Watered as directed. The stuffs growing and its looking great so far! More to go, but I'm happy. Definitely not 100% of seeds. Maybe something like 80% of seeds. May be my fault, maybe not, but I'm happy with the results considering how much ground there was to cover. With a proper overseeding in fall I think my yard will be 100% for next year!

Good Results
I live in NY, Long Island. I just threw down thick layers of seed on bare dirt. Not soil, dirt. I didn't put top soil over it. Just made sure it was watered and let it go. It works good for me.Where it really shines is the following year(s). The grass doesn't die off like most other grass under snow in frigid temps. As soon as March comes, this grass is already back to full green and growing, even though it's still cold. It's important to lay it down densely! We used the Scotts grass program in a different area that has a bunch of different bags involved and it was decimated after the winter. And that package was double the cost of this.It is very delicate when it's growing. Weeds can easily take over. So make sure you stay on top of them in the beginning. Also, any animals relieving themselves on this will kill even established grass is one go. So if it's a high traffic area, or an area where pets frequent, go with something more hardy. It just may not last through winter. This is also the perfect color green.

The best seed.
I planted Scotts Turf Builder Grass seed, and within a week it had filled in the bare spots and spaces that squirrels caused. It stayed green and thick all winter (northern CT cold) and it is still green and thick as we enter March. I plan on buying more for Spring overseeding. Great green color, and thickness, and it stays that way. I followed the simple directions and not one weed came up. It grew fast without my doing anything within a week, it's 100% grass seed. The best.

Good Overall Grass Seed Mix
I live in New England and had some thin patches that needed attention. I was looking for a general purpose seed mix that I could apply with minimal effort. This seed mix sprouted a decent yield and the mix did well in the location it was planted.

Weed seed
Worst seed I have ever used in over 30 years. Live in NJ and this is for the northeast. Took nearly 6 weeks to germinate then only 50% growth and 50% of that was a weed I had never seen before. Had to have been in their special blend. Don't think I will ever use Scott's products again. Waste of a lot time, effort and money.

Do it right and it pays off!
Photos show day 5 (early sprouts), day 8 (still thin), day 23 (before and after mowing).I planted in zone 6 Massachusetts on September 19. I first worked hard to remove all the weeds from the planting area, then added cow manure compost before seeding. I seeded and topped it with peat moss. Then I fertilized with Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food for New Grass and watered faithfully. My lawn was UGLY before the 2021 season and then all my neighbors started asking me how on Earth I had made such a transformation. Number 1 was attacking the grubs with beneficial nematodes and number 2 was the Scott’s season-long program. I’m actually looking forward to spring so that I can continue the improvements!
