This is exactly the book I was looking for to develop core strength. There is an "introduction" to the anatomy affected, which helps me visualize what I am stretching/exercising, and pictures with each of the poses. The writing is easily understood by a typical/average yoga student and is brief and to the point. This is for strengthening abs - nothing more and nothing less. If you want 6-pack abs of steel or anatomy 101, might want to keep looking. If you are looking to yoga to strengthen core muscles and develop endurance, this works for me.

I love all of Lasater's books!
Very informative and offering specific instruction for the poses which would be helpful for someone practicing on their own and for instructors teaching in class settings.

Great little book to learn more about the functioning of the core
I got this book at a used book sale several years ago; I figured maybe I should final read it! I am a yoga teacher, and I have several other of author Judith Lasater's yoga manuals. She is extremely precise in her language while inviting exploration of the concepts she presents. Some things gave me a "duh!" moment, but I had never thought of them exactly that way before (e.g., you can't contract your abs while doing a backbend). She includes a number of practices for the reader to try as a follow along, both yoga asana (postures) and specific exercises. Definitely a worthwhile read.

basic
i think it is really basic and might be useful for yoga beginners. It is just not something I am looking for.

permission to have a soft tummy
I found this book to be inspiring. It gave me permission to have a soft feminine tummy, and still be strong. I love the exercises that are geared toward strength while giving care for the back. Judith knows alot about the human body and she explains that it is OK to have a round soft tummy. Its not natural for us to have be flat or have abs of steel. After doing the exercises I can feel my core getting stronger. I love this book!
