Letters to Juliet

Very nice film unless you are terminally averse to soppy melodrama
There is no better way to characterize this film than by quoting the opening line of the great Roger Ebert’s 12 May 2010 review of it:“I know “Letters to Juliet” is a soppy melodrama, and I don't mind in the least. I know the ending is preordained from the setup. I know the characters are broad and comforting stereotypes. In this case, I simply don't care. Sometimes we have personal reasons for responding to a film.”I do not have Roger Ebert’s personal reasons for liking this film, other than admiration for most of the actors in it.Be warned, this film is indeed “soppy melodrama” in extremis; the “Juliet” in the title is the one of “Romeo and Juliet”. The premise of the story is not credible. It has not one but two love stories with doubly predictable outcomes. So, you will dislike this film if you are unalterably averse to the genre, no matter what. If you are not, keep reading. Here are the Cliff Notes of the story. Amanda Seyfried, engaged to be married to Gael García Bernal, a young passionate restauranteur in the making, goes to Verona with him for a “premarital honeymoon”. While the latter pursues his culinary interests she connects with a group of “Juliet’s secretaries”, women who answer letters posted to Juliet (of Romeo and Juliet) on a love wall. Accidentally, she discovers a 50-year old letter written by a woman in England and answers it. The woman turns out to be the 75-year old Vanessa Redgrave who turns up in Italy with her nephew Christopher Egan. The three of them go looking for the old version of the boy Vanessa Redgrave fell in love with fifty years ago. The outcomes are predictable. It is no surprise that this story and the film are saved by the extraordinary performance of Vanessa Redgrave at 75, ably supported by Amanda Seyfried and Gael García Bernal. Also helping is some extraordinary Tuscan landscape.I have some reservations about the casting of Christopher Egan. Spoiler alert, although entirely predictable. Gael García Bernal is so attractive a personality in the film that it is hard to believe that Amanda Seyfried’s character would dump him for Christopher Egan’s rather priggish character.

This is why I watch movies.
This is the perfect example of why I watch movies. Not to be preached at, not to be told how terrible I or my country is, not to be preached at because I think some life choices are insane, not to be told a single solitary thing. This is seriously nice movie about true love both at the beginning of life and at the end with a good dose of just nice story telling.

Very Heart Warming
I have seen this movie three times now through time and it always inspires me!The acting is superb, the story is heart warming and I truly believe this sort of things happen more than you think.Know who you are and why you are here. Than follow your dream and your purpose with incredible passion and die finished!!I use the acronym of FAITH as "finding answers in the heart"If there is someone that was in your life or you really felt strongly they should have been, go after it like your life depends on it because it does!!Don't be fearful, fear is only false evidence appearing real!Do not let your sub-conscious and the negative neural pathways that were built over your life make your decisions for you, it will be heart breaking for sure!Be strong, do not let what others think about you matter because they mostly can not thing for themselvesThis movie speaks volumes about life and the decisions we make and how it shapes our future!

Letters To Julie
Letters To Juliet is a gentle lovely love story. The search for lost love through the beautiful countryside of Northern Italy is the main theme of the movie Letters To Juliet. Vanessa Redgrave's performance made this movie so special and to top it off, you then had a cameo appearance by Franco Nero, as the lost love, found. Art in this case is mirroring real life, because Redgrave and Nero met and fell in love in 1966 on the set of the movie musical “Camelot.” She was playing Guinevere and he was playing the brave knight Lancelot. They have a son, Carlo Nero. They stayed close, but went their separate ways.

Delightful twist on true love and Romeo and Juliet legend
Two love stories are shown at the same time. We see a marriage approaching and a second chance romance that centers on a letter to Juliet that was hidden for decades. Grandmother, grandson and a writer travel Italian countryside searching for grandmother's young love. Writer's finance is obsessed with his restaurant start-up. Of course, grandmother finds her love. Writer and grandson unite at their wedding where he proves his dedication. All is well.

Cute film
I felt this was a good movie and enjoyed it. The plot line has been used many times before, but I still enjoyed it. Vanessa Redgrave was beautiful. The film had a pleasant simple story line, no sex, no naked people and no disgusting language. It could be watched by entire family - definitely a chick flick.

Preciosa historia
