Not just a turn-off valve - it's a REGULATOR
Cannot say enough good things about this product for quality, conservation of water, and ease of installation. Purchased in conjunction with the green Hammerhead 2.5 GPM Flow Restrictor. They work together beautifully without being redundant. This "shutoff" intalls between the shower joint and the flexible supply hose. It has a small cylindrical screw/push bar that regulates the flow of water between near 0.0 gpm (off) and the full force of your house supply. The screw/push bar in the valve allows you to control the flow at this point, even before it hits the hose leading the showerhead. The screw/pushbar is a little small, but it is serrated on one side to help you move it (see the product photos). You can push and pull or turn it. Either way, it rotates to increase or decrease the water flow. It can be dialed to near zero or fully open. The latter will permit the full pressure of your house's system to flow to the showerhead and its own regulator. The former will reduce the flow to almost nothing so you can soap up, shave, or finish up whatever it is you do behind the curtain and then resume the water when you want it. It was shockingly easily to install for a klutz like me. All of the work is done on your handheld shower unit Unscrew the flexible hose from the short pipe that protrudes downward from near the joint that attaches the shower unit to the house supply pipe. Screw in the valve with a little bit of plumbers tape around the threads (I used way too much). Screw the flexible hose into the bottom of the HammerHead. Again, a little bit of plumbers tape around the threads here is helpfu. Done. Experiment with the pressure. Put out the extra fluffy towels for yourself. Strongly recommend that you use this in conjunction with the green Hammerhead 2.5 GPM Flow Restrictor. The combo is unbelievably effective. We discovered that a 2.5 gpm flow from the showerhead is actually a bit strong. We were able to dial it down a bit using this valve, to somewhere betwen 1.8 and 2.5, according to personal preference. Perfect. This device controls the volume/rate of your house supply before it hits the regulator inside the showerhead. The regulator (blue or green) inside the showerhead then controls the volume/rate of water that rains onto you. The only means to enjoy a volume/rate between 1.8 gpm and 2.5 gpm is to use this valve in conjunction with a 2.5 gpm regulator. I don't feel guilty about wasting water (like, dude, we compost) because we are still saving. The 2.5 gpm limit was established in 1992 as a conservation measure. A lot of places have enacted limits down to 1.8 gpm. As I noted above, however, the flow rate that you are now regulating to personal preference with these two products TOGETHER (between zero and 2.5 gpm) actually allows you to spend less time under the water -there's sufficient volume now to rinse properly. And the combo price won't put you underwater. We are using less water overall because we are regulating between 1.8 gpm and 2.5 gpm and spending less time under the sprayer. If you want 1.8 gpm, leave your blue regulator alone. Or buy this AND the Hammerhead Shower Head green regulator, and you can literally reduce the flow down to a dribble. Highly recommended for water conservation, ease of installation, ease of use, quality, and value.

Perfect upgrade to any shower to save water.
Works perfectly and allows just the thinnest dribble to maintain heat. Quality construction and finish. I was surprised to see any negative reviews on this. yes,. it's that good.

This is not a 100% Shut-off valve
This product does exactly what the description says and is of excellent quality. The title of the device is a bit decieving since it implys that the water would be completely shut off. The description explains that when water is shut off, there remains a tricke of water. I don't know why that would be a useful feature, and I'll admit to have not read the description so I returned it. However, that was on me and as I said, the threads were perfect, the material was solid and the operation was smooth. It is very good quality, just not the features I was desiring.

Great quality
Great quality, smooth operation but I would like to see a larger pass through hole as it does restrict the flow a bit.

Solid product
Works really well and high quality. Easy to slide the button. If it's in off position, there's still some water trickling down but works for me. highly recommended

same company offered better option
This was an interesting experience. I was shopping for a shut off valve - I didn't want to purchase a shower head as I like my current one and it's relatively new. I saw this shut off valve which, by description, would do the job I needed. In the "off" position, there was no trickle but a continued flow. Yes, it was less but it wasn't a trickle. Within the packaging for this piece was a QRC - no other instructions or information. On scanning the code, it opened a short video demonstrating (in my opinion) a far superior shut off/flow control valve made by the same folks. No mention was made of the Shower Head Shut off Valve. The item in the video 'Water Flow Control Valve' is far superior: easier to control with many settings (the control itself was easier to manipulate vs the push button on the Shut off Valve), Off is Off - no trickle/no flow, no hot or cold water surge when pushing the thumb slide back to on settings. I returned this item and purchased the Water Flow Control Valve also available through Amazon.

Perfect for Stopping or Adjusting the Hammerhead Wand Stream as Needed.
I bought this as a helpful shower tool, in preparation for the daily shower schedule prescribed by my Cardiac surgeon and care center's staff for post-surgical care. It works perfect to stop or adjust our Hammerhead wand stream to the flow strength needed, while keeping the temperature constant.

Does exactly as advertised!
We got this for our Hammerhead handheld shower head primarily to have a way to pause water flow while bathing a dog. We send her to the groomers for that now, but it's not on account of this little valve: it works great! No extra teflon tape was required during installation with the way the brass fittings worked together; it fit like a glove and was easy to install. The valve works fine, although on occasion we forget to push it all the way back to its open position; however, that's entirely user error and not the fault of the valve itself. It also lends some extra weight to the shower head due to its all-metal construction, which is not a problem for us but might be for those who have less arm or shoulder strength.

The on/off button on our handheld shower hose was getting extremely stiff and difficult to use. I was not able to find any info about disassembling and relubricating the assembly, but I found this handy little all-metal shutoff. Installation was simple - I just unscrewed the handheld nozzle from the hose (I didn't even know you could do that!) and inserted this new shutoff between the nozzle and the hose. The shutoff button on the new valve moves nice and smoothe, making everything right with the world once again.
