Perfect for what I wanted!
Exactly what I wanted and expected: a rain jacket I could wear over other clothing - a sport coat or other jacket; heavy-sweater-and-shirt, etc., to protect them from storms. Beautifully designed and constructed; simple with great subtle style. Sophisticated but not fussy, with sports coats and / or ties: classically contemporary-casual with jeans. Looks great with or without the hood. I'll leave the hood on and ready, since the kind of weather I'll wear it in can turn wet any time. Plus it's the only hooded jacket / coat I own that I prefer how it looks WITH the hood all the time.I ordered a Large, which is what I wear in shirts, jackets, sports coats, etc., and it's large enough to wear over any of those without being TOO large. A Medium would have been to small for that. I'm 5'11", 175 lbs, 17" neck. It's a RAIN coat; not a fitted car coat. It's built to wear over other jackets and clothing. Yes, if I'd planned to wear it alone over no other jackets or sweaters, etc., I'd have ordered it in Medium.Couldn't be more pleased - and a great price for this level of thoughtful design (pockets; vented back) and quality construction.Amazingly, it arrived two days after I ordered it!It's exactly what I hoped it would be from the pix. It's for fall and winter storms; not spring and summer.

Omni-tech waterproof and pockets for everything.
So water repellent I need to towel off the jacket before I can walk in from the rain!!. Pockets all over the place in sizes I can stash a mini tablet into a zipper pocket or my passport in where I won't lose it. I have stood on the prow of a ferry going to San Juan island, Washington and not felt the wind except where skin was exposed, so I know this jacket is the real deal. Columbia has been a very good choice for me for more than 20 years and I still own many of the items I bought becuase they wear but do not wear out. I will be taking this jacket with me on some fall hikes and intend to layer under this jacket for commutes into the city all winter. The only criticisim I have is the two open breast pockets tend to sag open which may degrade the waterproof values of the jacket. They have no way to close them and the overflap dosen't overlap enough causing me to not use the pockets much especially when it may be raining.

Great style, not waterproof.
I purchased this coat as a birthday gift for my spouse. The XL fit perfectly, and the style of this coat is fantastic. It has a lot of strategically placed pockets which are very handy. The only two complaints we have, are that the two front breast pockets have just an unsealable flap over the opening, which, in the rain, allows for water to flow in freely. Also, though this coat is water resistant, it is not water-proof, as advertised. After about 30 min in the rain, the water soaks through.

A jacket that could hold up in the rain but not flimsy and thin like other rain jackets
This is exactly what I was looking for... A jacket that could hold up in the rain but not flimsy and thin like other rain jackets. It has a good amout of thickness to it but not too much. I am also very happy about the size... I got a large and I do not think it is too big. I am 5' 7'' 180lbs and the sizing is just right.. It's large enough that it allows me to add layers underneath and long enough for added protection. But it's not too long that it becomes an overcoat.

When I saw this jacket I was very happy. I am tired of my butt getting cold ...
When I saw this jacket I was very happy. I am tired of my butt getting cold and wet with the styles of jacket popular now, and this looked good.It works fine, but I am very disappointed at the metal fasteners that hold the hood in place and elsewhere. This makes it too heavy to backpack. It is also too warm for any but autumn and winter use. I should have made the connection between old style and old weight.

Fairly satisfied
Seems to be working - looks nice. Definitely cut a size large so unless you are intent on a LOT of layers, buy a size smaller.

Good against the wind and rain, slightly warm
Good against the wind and rain. It is a good quality jacket, in general. The garment is slightly warm, not enough when it's cold. Impractical. The size is bigger than advertised. Too heavy for the protection it gives.
