Great for freshening already sharpened skates!
Great way to freshen up your sharpen! Works just like it says! Just read a review from somebody who says it flattened their blades with two passes.. Makes me wonder if the skates were sharpened to begin with.. Please understand this will only freshen or maintain an already good sharpen! And it definitely takes more than TWO passes. This does not sharpen unsharpened skates. Also, you don't have to be a "serious" player to need good edges ;) Do your research on how this re-edger works, and make an informed decision!

Good item to have
Keeps a nice edge on the bkades. if you have major damage like a nick or dent, this wont fix it. If you have a good edge on the skate, this will reduce the number of full sharpenings youll need over time or between. A little pricey but worth it.

GREAT PRODUCT!!! DOES WHAT IT SAYS
I'm not a big fan of getting my skates sharpened too often. I usually only get them sharpened once a season (12 games), but I have noticed some nicks on my blades lately so I purchased this tool to see if it would help. I used this tool this past Sunday and it worked perfectly. Gave my blades a nice fresh edge and took the little nicks out. I am planning to purchase some of the replacement blades ASAP.

It works ok. Do not substitute for sharpening your skates though.... I cant say I really tell the difference but I think it is working in between periods.....

Excellent product, great price
This worked far better than any other blade sharpener I have used in the past. Made a crisp good edge. Still need to have professional sharpening from time to time, but this will extend that time. Very easy to use.

Great for between sharpenings
I have used the 'Sweet Stick', and the 'Re-edger' which work well for what they are designed. This works even better in that it maintains a truer profile to your blade. Still not a replacement for the occasional pro skate machines, but I now keep all three with me on the bench as a coach.

Hockey blades are concave, this flattens them out!
Son plays hockey at Peewee level and I bought this do do some in-between sharpening. It ruined the skates to a point that we needed to pull him in the middle of practice and have the skates sharpened at the shop before he could go back in. He was slipping and sliding all over the place when he went in. The scoop is, that if you look at the profile of the hockey blade (Haven’t fried this on daughter’s figure skating blades fortunately) is CONCAVE, and this thing removes those sharp ridges on both sides, making the skate flat. Out of abundance of caution, I only did two passes however, suspecting this might happen, and the results were still so drastic that we have to have the blades machined again. Perhaps positive reviews pertain to leisurely skaters and this might in fact be helpful for that type of use, but DEFINITELY not for serious hockey players. Sorry.

Actually Works Very Well
I try a lot of different products some are disappointing, then you come across something that works better than expected. This hand sharpener works great. Don't lend it out in the locker room, it might not come back.

great stuff. takes practise but so far, an excellent buy for hockey dad.
ok so far ... this is amazing. really happy. you really gotta learn to use this manual gadget well though. you need swift smooth straight motions up and down , quickly. try not to snag it. one you got momentum, you rapidly go for it and really have continual up and down --- i dunno if thats the "right technique" but i youtubed-it and thats how some of the videos show it. takes a decent two or three skate pairs to get used to it. I tried it on a few spare garbage skates to learn and it was gold. after i understood how it works, it tried it on real hockey skates and the results are pretty great. i use a honing stone after and it really adds the bite back to the skate. i thought i'd need to get the electronic one but i decided to try this one for me and my son's hockey skates (my son's on 3x a week and i'm just once). this will definitely keep the skates sharp in between professional sharpening and even allow me to skip a few too.really impressed so far.
