Must buy book for Pathology 2018-19 Preparation
Disclaimer : This review consists of thoughts ideas and opinions of multiple people. But it doesn't necessarily represent everyone. This is totally subjective which may differ from person to person. But these opinions are true within best of my knowledge.Photos attached are of Table Of Contents only. Being copy right of CBSPD and Authors.Reasons to update from 3rd to 4th edition1. More image based concepts1.1 --- image based questions given all together at end of chapter. Easy access.2. Recent questions3. Robbins Concise 10th edition updates wherever applicable4. For those who likes colours... 4 colour book printing.-----------> PROSOne of the very best feature about this book or i must say CBS Books is that... You never really complete a chapter without doing MCQ. Meaning... Even when you've read theory... There's always something new to find in explanation of MCQ. So in many book there is redundant data in theory as well as mcq. But this is not thr case here. Here you keep on learning new facts.-----> Content1. Book is time tested. All the data is said to be very authentic. Standard textbooks are referred for the purpose.2. Those who haven't read Robbins (large or small) no need to worry... As all the important points from the lengthy beast is covered here in very nice format and only those that are required are given in concise manner.3. Annexures are not uncommon... They are given in all books BUT all these annexures given here are of prime importance and many questions sure shot questions can be expected to appear from them. More annexure in 4th edition than 3rd.4. General Pathology Chapter of Cell as unit of life, cell injury, inflammation, NEOPLASIA, WBC, RBC, Platelets are really well covered through all the aspects. But this doesn't mean that other chapters are not good. They are good in their own aspects.5. Systematic One cannot expect too much of systematic in subject of pathology but i must say... Thie book covers vast plethora of topics. CVS GIT RENAL are par excellence. They even shame some medicine textbooks.(Rest of systematic chapters i haven't gone through so i am not able to provide review at this time.)6. What, as per me, the best feature of this book, especially this edition is that IT HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH Robbins 10th concise edition(minor) and LOTS N LOTS OF IMAGE BASED TEXT. (Major)Recently trent of more n more IBQ have harassed and troubled students to its wits but I must say... For the subject of pathology all images given are very very very sufficient and self explanatory. This includes not only gross photography but also histological slides which is unique and necessary feature.----->Formatting1. High yield facts boxes are really useful when you are turning pages for revision2. Flow charts really nicely depict the process3. Multi colour formatting is quite eye catching for those who are bored of B/W textbook.4. Two column formatting gives an illusion of text being less even when more text is accomodated as relative to single column formatting.-------------> Cons-----> Content1. In chapter of CVS, topic of venous and lymphatics has been described in short. Even though topic is mostly surgical in nature with very less pathology i expect some data.2. Content of genetic disorders in this book is less as compared to Robbins. Basics of genetics is given but if you want details of every dz then it's not there. Though some important dz are given no doubt about that.-----> Formatting1. Glossy thin papers in the book. Why the publisher changed to this i don't know but some students might not prefer this type of paper quality. They smudge easily. Writting or underlying gets imprinted on next page. The paper quality in the last edition of book was ideal. (As per some opinion)2. Area to write notes at end of chapter may seem inadequate for some students. (Personally i find that enough)3. The tabular format of the data (of a topic for eg CML given whole in tabular form) which was present in previous edition has been removed. Just seems an upgrade or not, totally subjective. Topic heading and headers were quite good in that format. But this doesn't affect any of the contents.Hope you find it helpful in choosing your pathology book... :)
