Super Movie, excellent price.

Great film

Frankenstein has been filmed so many times you wonder why movie studios keep going back and telling the same story over and over again. Well, we've had some great Frankenstein movies over the decades, from James Whales immortal 1931 version to Kenneth Brannagh's bloated but faithful adaptation. There are so many ways to stage and retell the story which is why it's been brought to life over and over again. Paul Morrisey brought nudity and gore, Mel Brooks brought humor and reverence to the old Universal movies and now Sherlock director Paul McGuigan goes for a Victorian steampunk aesthetic. The look and feel if the movie owes a debt to the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movies and has a similar frenetic pace. The casting is excellent, especially James Macavoy as the eponymous Doctor. His Frankenstein is half mad, half bad but always a lot of fun to watch. Daniel Radcliffe plays Igor who is there as Victor's conscience as we race through the plot, touching on BIG ethical and metaphysical questions (this is the real reason the story keeps being told because Mary Shelly's themes are universal and eternal). Overall, it's a fun and exciting movie, with some great special effects. It performed badly at the box office and critical consensus was not kind, but it's not a Van Helsing abomination. It's a very good monster movie and one of the better Franky movies yet made. Recommended.

Great film. Well worth watching in my opinion

I have been enjoying Frankenstein films for many years now and I have slowly over the years built up a collection of all the universal and Hammer films. I bought this film for one reason, Daniel Radcliffe. This film, a nice variation of a theme, the story told in this version is very different from previous films. This time from the side of the assistant who was considered a partner. Unlike other films this is set in England and a very interesting twist to how Frankenstein was able to carry out his experiment. I have to say it's a very good film with very large sets and a high budget production. This film is now part of my collection, it's a real keeper.

So the story is the good old Frankenstein story, except that here the monster is not at the centre. Here it is the arguably mad or visionary scientist Victor Frankenstein who is at the centre, as well as his relationship with Igo and other characters in the movie. James McAvoy proves that he is a first-class actor, with a lot more depth that you will have see him in other movies. He seems to really enjoy this role. Daniel Radcliffe is truly touching in his role of Igor. I even wondered how he would have been if he had played Victor Frankenstein. Maybe another time...

You have heard this story before but Not like this

Ich habe noch nie zuvor irgendeine Frankenstein-Verfilmung gesehen, aber natürlich kenne ich die Geschichte. In dieser Verfilmung, die weder ein Remake noch eine Fortsetzung ist, sondern eher eine Neuadaption der Geschichte, die etwas erweitert wurde, vor Allem um den Charakter des Igor, den es im Roman nicht gibt! Aber genau das macht den Film so interessant! In diesem Film spielt James McAvoy den leicht verrückten Wissenschaftler Victor Frankenstein, der versucht eine Kreatur zum Leben zu erwecken, die er selbst "gebaut" hat, aber es mangelt ihm an medizinischem Wissen. Eines Tages trifft er im Zirkus zufällig auf einen jungen Mann, der nur "der Bucklige" genannt wird, gespielt von Daniel Radcliffe, und mehr Gefangener als Artist ist, sich aber sehr für Medizin und Anatomie interessiert und so auch einer Kollegin (in die er verknallt ist) nach einem Sturz das Leben retten kann. Frankenstein ist derart beeindruckt von seinen Fähigkeiten, dass er den Mann aus seinem Käfig befreit und ihm mit zu sich nach Hause nimmt. Dort soll Igor, so sein neuer Name, Frankenstein helfen, seine Kreatur zu erschaffen. Ich persönlich finde den Film sehr interessant, schon allein die Paarung James McAvoy und Daniel Radcliffe, die ich beide sehr mag als Schauspieler, sie liefern hier beide eine sehr ordentliche Leistung ab. Das Verrückte des Frankenstein hat James McAvoy gut rausgeholt und Daniel Radcliffe spielt hier sehr gut den eher ruhigen und gutmütigen Typen, der Frankenstein ins Gewissen redet, wenn er es vermag. Des Weiteren sind in dem Film Jessica Brown Findlay als Lorelei zu sehen, die auch was fürs Auge bietet, Andrew Scott als Inspektor Turpin, sowie Charles Dance als Baron Frankenstein. Ein sehenswerter Film, besonders für Leute wie mich, die nie zuvor einen Frankenstein-Film gesehen haben, aber auch für Fans der ursprünglichen Geschichte ist der Film sicherlich interessant. Weil er die Story so neu und frisch erzählt, ohne dabei aber eine komplett neue Geschichte zu erzählen.

J'ai adoré ce film, quelques longueurs par contre. Une nouvelle histoire d'un bossu qui est plus qualifié presque que le Docteur Frankenstein. Les acteurs sont superbes, les images aussi. Ne vous fiez pas aux appréciations des autres écouter le et faite votre propre jugement.
