Well Built and Good Value
I picked this up for 14.98 at Amazon warehouse. This is actually a pretty good little light, bright enough for my e scooter. I bought it mainly for the flashing function during daylight. This fits snugly to a carbon fiber handlebar extension rod that's approximately 7/8" in diameter. The mounting strap grips well and I don't think it will slip due to the friction and the balance of the light. I returned a Planet Bike Beamer 700 because it wouldn't fit narrower bars and it's front heavy enough to cause drooping after riding over bumps.

An excellent bike light
These lights are great - They're light and compact, and have three brightness settings, from bright enough to very bright. The beam is neither too focused nor too diffuse. This is the second light from NR that I've purchased. I still have the almost-identical looking 350 model (the model name is etched into the right side of the light's casing). I bought the 500 for redundancy, and for additional light, in case required. The lights come with a charging cable, with standard, rectangular USB to USB Micro-B plugs. This is the same for my older 350 and new 500 model. The charging is quick and obvious, based on the power button LED status, slow blinking to solid on.The other thing that stood out to me was the customer service. I emailed NiteRider a question, one evening (during Christmas holidays), about the 500 model, and received an answer back from Isabelle early the next morning.A great product and prompt, helpful support.

Serious Electrical Problems
I admit, I was nervous about buying this light after seeing so many negative reviews of the battery. But a friend had recommended the brand and I took a chance. Total disaster. The light worked as described. I carefully diabled the protect mode and gave the light the first charge as suggested, removing it from the charger within minutes of the "full" indicator showing. I blissfully enjoyed the brilliant light it emitted and commuted a lovely 2 days before returning it to its charger. But when I did, the charging light flashed erratically and it would not take a charge. I rode a few more miles before it died. I messaged the company with no reply. So, my advice: buy a light from a different company. This one can't make lights that work for more than a few days.

mini USB charger
Unfortunately ordered this without knowing that the charger is mini USB. Don't think I have many of those laying around anymore. Otherwise I liked the amount of light considering how many lumens it is and the mount seems good.

Perfect w/Imperfections Worthy of Mentioning
The light works great on my hybrid bike rides. A couple of little things: the strap that attaches the light to the handlebars broke after around eight months of use every other day on the first light I bought locally. And the small rubber plug that covers the charging port also broke during the same time period. One more thing: be very careful when inserting the charging cable into the port, so it goes in the right way and not to accidentally insert the cable from another device as this will likely damage the light’s charging port receptor causing you not to be able to recharge the light. These are the reasons I had to buy the headlight twice. So, the current light is a replacement. Be careful and gentle with the device, and you should enjoy it for a long time.

Great Product! Better Design
I have owned 2 other NiteRider lights prior to this, an older model 500 & 850 I believe. They both were eventually lost to the holder design which, both times, the light skidded into traffic and were crushed by vehicles. Both holders clasps were plastic and worn out from daily use and taking the light in and out to charge.I ride on streets with a road bike daily, usually 30 miles per trip, approx. 1/2 of those in the dark. The new design is much more compact and in one piece, no removable cradle or holder. I feel that the 500 is plenty of light even in low light conditions, so this being the top line for their Swift series works great for me. Here is to not having your light run over by car traffic ever again. Thank you NiteRider for the redesign!

Very short battery life
I had an earlier version of this headlight. Every charge lasted for about 30 hours of cycling when the light was flashing. It finally stopped working after about 8 years or so. The Nightrider Swift 500 light barely lasts 4-5 hours in flashing mode. This means that I could never get through a century ride with it. While the product has a nice, bright flashing light, it doesn't long enough. I would not have bought it had I realized this.
