Great books!
I bought a few Yasmin books to use with my 1st grade students. They’re great for teaching realistic fiction. The kids LOVED the books!

A great story !
I like to expose my 5 year old to a diverse range of books. This was such a great find! I love how the author and illustrator, without pretense, show that yasmin is a Muslim girl. That fact does not weigh into the story line much which is great..she is simply a young girl who loves to explore!

The yasmin series is amazing! This book is Yasmin the Explorer. The story is about how Yasmin draws a map and uses it at the farmer’s market when she gets lost. I love how the book shows her relationship with her mother and father as one where they clearly value and love her. Her dad calls her “Jaan”, an urdu term of endearment; this subtle way of introducing cultural diversity in children’s books is great in promoting tolerance.I also really like how Yasmin solves her issues on her own! She teaches children to take charge and be proactive in solving problems. The last few pages of the book include a mango lassi recipe (yum!) and facts about Pakistan (so awesome for kids to learn). The reading level for this story is (K-2) and it is a wonderful addition for any school’s library.

A+ window book!
As a window book, this story is doing an A+ job; I especially love the moment where Yasmin can hardly wait for Mama to get her hijab and purse. (I imagine it would be a good mirror book as well, but can't speak to that personally.)I had somehow expected the map to play a bigger role; this one struck me as a little lighter on plot than some of the other Yasmin books. But my kid does like it (and was even inspired to make maps, too!) And I certainly don't mind re-reading it, even if just for the interactions with Yasmin's very sweet and supportive parents!

Deightful Story of a Modern Girl's Adventures in the City
My five-year-old daughter loved this story so much that she packed it in her backpack this morning to take to kindergarten with her. She hopes her teacher will read it to the class. We love the discussion questions at the back of the book and the mango lassi recipe -- so cool!

Great story but…
The two other Yasmin books I bought (meet Yasmin and you can do it Yasmin) both had 4 stories in one chapter style book. This book is only the one of the stories for the same price. I already have Yasmin the explorer included in one of the other books which I didn’t realize because the descriptions of the chapter books don’t include what is in each book. I would suggest buying one of the other two I listed above as more stories are included in one book
