Douk-Douk-DOUK!!!!
Great small knife. These are hand made one at a time by a small shop in France on traditional equipment and the owner is a direct ancestor to the original company creator. Made as a tool, you might find some blemishes and “character” right out of the box. This knife has an incredible history and to know it’s still being made in the same way, by the same family, is very interesting. This small knife is legal in most areas (3” blade, there is a 3.5” blade version also on Amazon) and is sharp out of the box. The back spring is very strong with a half lock for safety. I find it much more secure and stout in use over something with a weak lock without a half stop, such as a Case Sodbuster etc. This is a light, extremely thin and portable knife that is built to be simple, dependable, and will last for years. Edge retention isn’t great but very easy and quick to sharpen up again. If legal in your area, the larger model can be a bit more capable but this small one is very nice for most any EDC chore. Overall a timeless and rustic example of old world knives and is still 100% relevant and useable today. Two thumbs way up!!

Slim, simple, sharp, sturdy.
Slim, simple, sharp, sturdy. That about sums up the Douk-Douk. What we have here is an unlocking knife whose design goes back about 100 years. A slim blade with distal taper, and made out of good oldfashioned high-carbon steel. The edge grind was a little deep on mine, and I shallowed it out. This knife wants to slice. While it is a little tiny, it could handle all the cutting chores for a picnic, or act as an impromptu steak knife. Cleaning it is a breeze, you can swish it or run it under hot water, until it gets nearly too hot to handle, then shake it dry. The heat will make sure all the rest of the moisture steams off. Treat the blade and the pins every so often with a little cooking or food safe mineral oil. No problem. Also, this knife weighs nothing, and has no pocket presence. If you like world knives, or real working knives, this is an affordable classic.

Simple, Excellent
I bought this knife because it has some history, looked interesting and has been in production with little change for decades, not many things are produced today that are the same as they were when production started. Turns out that this knife is very useable. The handle is 3 3/8" long, the thickness of the sheet steel material is .035". Thie handle is thin but not uncomortable. The blade is high carbon steel, 2 9/16 long from tang(not handle) to the point. the blade is 9/16 wide, flat ground and semi-polished, blade is 3/32" thick tapering to .015" at the point. The blade pull is a little stiff but smooth, not as bad as some say it is, this is good since it is less likely to close accidentally. The blade has a half stop which gives an opportunity for regrasping the blade when opening and getting fingers out of the way when closing.Blade was pretty sharp, most will not feel the need to sharpen the blade for a while. The only flaw I found was when the blade was closed, the point was just slighty above the handle recess, not enough to stab or cut but scratch and snag. I filed a little off the kick(blade stop for the closed position) so the point would be below the recess. When adjusting any folder like this less is best, getting carried away the blade can close too far into the recess.Overall this is a fairly strong knife that is easily stored in the pocket or anywhere. I like it.

A Design That Has Stood The Test Of Time
Some designs endure forever, and Douk-Douk's little knife has earned a solid reputation as a useful, well made slip joint (non-locking) folder that can take a very sharp edge. The history of this knife is interesting, but that only adds to the proven build quality of this folder. The simplicity of the design makes this small pocket knife easy to maintain. That it is non-locking is not a fault, it is appropriate for the kinds of light duty, general cutting for which this is designed. Respect the design, and the knife is a classy looking, simply constructed, and durable tool. In another forum, it was mentioned by a long-time owner of this knife that a good way to open this folder (with a strong backspring) is to pull the handle away from the blade, rather than the blade from the handle. I agree, and do this myself. It opens easily using this technique. This is not my primary EDC, but it often does travel with me as a secondary knife, or it gets paired with a camping multi-tool. At the on-sale price of about $20, including shipping, this was a good purchase. Douk-Douk makes other, similar folders and should the price be right, I'd own them (probably will own them) all.

Excellent knife - built to peform
A very nice knife. Well built and dependable. I own many American made, slip joint or folding knives. The douk douk is as good any American made knife. It's not fancy - very straight forward - built to perform. The action is solid - lots of snap. Strong back spring. The blade is solid - no play or wobble. Blade is carbon steel - not stainless - it still take a nice patina with use. The steel is great - sharpens up to razor edge. The blade shape is very useful. An excellent knife. I do prefer the 200mm over the 160mm. I own both. The larger one is a more useful work knife. The smaller one is nice, but more like a pen knife.
