Great Controller & Almost Perfect!
This is a very excellent controller all the buttons feel great and the shape of it is comfortable to hold. The back buttons are also in a place where I dont accidentally press them; the dpad options are great as well. The customization on the app is very easy to understand and use. Ultimately this is a very good controller to get tht checks alot of boxes and u cant go wrong if u buy it. Ive used the very first version of this fighting commander octa years ago, and this newer version is way way better. I just hope they change somethings for the next installment of this controller. Im give it 5 stars but i do have some gripes or things i think they should change with the next version of this controller. I only really tested the controller with SF6 and my main controller ived used for years is the betop thorn from Aliexpress. Ive tried many different 6-button controllers over the years and the Betop is still my go to for fighting games. With this octa controller i think they should have the dpad and the face buttons feel relatable or similarish. The face buttons on this controller are lik mouse clicks, so its very sensitive and doesn't require much force to press, but the dpad is lik a normal membrane button press that isn't sensitive. So when i try to do special moves i have to remember to not press the face buttons to fast because the dpad cant be pressed in as quickly. So i have to train myself to sync the timing of the dpad and face buttons in a way tht im not used to. With practice u can get used to it tho. I just feel if the face buttons are tactile then so should the dpad; but i would ultimately prefer for the face buttons to be a lil smaller & regular pressing buttons lik on an xbox or ps5 controller. I would love it if the left stick was lower and more away from the dpad, also i wish the dpad was a lil bigger and was made similar the sega dpad controllers.

Bulky = dropped inputs
Way too bulky. You will drop inputs due to the placements of buttons. Seemed nice at first. I dropped way too many inputs and now I’ve had over 100+ matches with it to see if I can get accustomed to the controller but the bulkiness restricts your movements

Great controller! Must Update Out of The Box
The hori octa pro is my first 6 button controller. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now for Tekken 8, and I can say overall I really enjoy this controller. It’s sturdy, light and comfortable to hold in my hands for long gaming sessions. I, personally, have small hands and feel that the buttons are spaced out perfectly for anyone wanting to play with the claw style or traditional style. The dpad also is alot better than the dualsense dpad (imo) especially when needing to perform quarter and half circle inputs. Moreover, the additional swappable dpads are nice if you have a preference on how you like your dpad. The reason I gave this controller a 4/5 though is because you MUST update this controller on the hori device manager once you take it out of the box. Based on numerous online post, and in the reviews here, the dpad input are out of wack out of the box. Hori has fixed this with this update, but no one should have to update this controller on their own. Hori should be shipping these controllers with the Dpad update, especially if you are paying $110. Once you do update this controller, the dpad feels extremely nice with no input errors.

Solid successor to FC4, better than Octa v1
Posting from my wife's acct: I'm a fighting game old head and have been using custom pads since the 90s. My favorite pad of all time was the Sega Saturn (JPN) version. That dpad is legendary. Nothing will every come close but the Hori has gotten pretty close with their Fighting Commander line. Still use my FC3 and 4 regularly, the former being bought for MvC3/Ultimate and the latter being bought for SFV. FC4 is my favorite and this Octa Pro is so close to being as good/surpassing it. Lots of PC and PS5 players trashing this controller for missed inputs, bad sensitivity. READ: UPDATE THE FIRMWARE I too was about to send it back to Amazon with a 1 star review. Update the firmware via the Hori updateer, set the sensitivity and you're off the races. Night and day difference. Not sure why Hori didn't have them preloaded. Just trying to spread the word here. Pros: Modular pads; I have been using the cross style for forever post Saturn but the Saturn style rocker is great. Build quality is solid. They cheaped out on the locking function but that's fine. It's a big controller but not weighty. Perfect balance between too light and hefty The Dpad is the best since the FC4, full stop. My diagonals are registered and my hands don't hurt after hours of competitive local play or ranked on SF6 (Master, 1700s), software made this possible (more on that in the cons). I love the right stick and touchpad additions for casual applications like in SF6 where I'd have to see l use the switch on the FC4 and it was awkward. Great to have all the functionality upfront. Dual wireless and wired option is a god send because I have to use to a Brook converter to use my other pads, which is an added cost. Wireless is flawless and the braided cable makes me feel good about accidents at locals (they happen). I didn't like the click switches on the buttons BUT I learned to love them. Only thing is that it telegraphs your play to a local opponent as they are loud. For ranked it's not an issue. Customized sensitivity of the Dpad is great as you can use software or the manual setting via the buttons including profiles . Kind of novel for a controller at this price point. All buttons are programmable, which is to be expected at this price point, with duplicates allowed. Cons: I have big manly hands, this Dpad is smaller than the FC4 to accommodate the left stick. I wish they moved the stick lower and made the Dpad area bigger. Subjective but with noting. Cable port is restrictive; if you USB cable has a housing on the end, it won't fit. You need to have a slim or low profile cable to clear the port area Lack of removable and modular face plate; probably a cost/benefit thing but I would have like a fully removable face plate to choose membrane or switch style buttons. Interesting choice to have membrane Dpad and switch buttons Terrible out of the box with no updates via PC; if you don't update this controller right away with the recent firmware, the Dpad is garbage. I was about to return it within a few hours before I updated it. Then everything we crisp after which is a shame because most people are not tech savvy enough to take that step. UPDATE IT ASAP. Stiff shoulder buttons; they are not soft like the FC4 and take effort to press down, could be a breaking in of the buttons but they are tough to press down at certain angles. Kind of annoying. Overall this controller is probably what the Octa v1 should have been and it's a shame that this will probably get review bombed by folks that don't update the controller or don't read manuals but I wanted to a least provide an enthusiast/competitive player account of how this stacks up. For $100 it's a solid showing. I would pay $150-$175 for shoulder, face and front button modularity. That would compete with the Razer Raion and Vitrix pads that serve multiple purposes vs. being dedicated to fighting games. 60 hours in, this controller is still rock solid and has been my replacement for controllers from from 2011 and 2015. Keep it up HORI! Highly recommend for pad players that want a plug and play option for PS5/PC.

First thing I did was update the firmware. 1. Dpad - cross shape Pad is good about the same size as Hori Fighting Commander (FC) but more tactile and it sticks out of the gamepad more whereas the FC cross dpad was more recessed and loose. Better than the original octa. 2. Buttons - Good tactile micro switch about the same as original octa. 3. Shape - Good shape , slightly better than FC but much more ergonomic. 4. Analogue , doesn't get in the way too much but this depends on the user. I like it as I use Zangief sometimes and with dpad his throws are inconsistent . 5. Wireless - Didn't test as I wanted the consistency of wired. 10 hours battery life is very lackluster , the gamepad is already quite light so double or even triple battery capacity should have been standard ! 6. The included cable is USB c to USB c which is quite annoying. I use a USB c to USB a dongle as my only USB c port is already in use. 7. Value - probably about $50 too expensive as the battery life is bad. This is my main fightpad now . It's not perfect but if you're a fightpad player this is about the best for now.

My Hori Octa Pro suddenly stopped working and is completely bricked after 2.5 months of seldom and gentle use. It stopped registering with my PS4 and PC one day, or with any chargers and sources, even on its latest firmware when it was operating correctly prior. None of the lights would appear. It just stopped working given the same circumstances of when it did function properly. I’ve contacted Hori Support twice but have received zero feedback nor acknowledgement - even having provided all necessary information - receipt, invoice, and video proof. For a controller marketed for tournament/pro use, its lack of reliability is not a good sign. *** UPDATE #1: Hori did eventually honour their warranty, with priority shipping back, so I've updated this review from one to three stars as the product is still flawed. I received a refurbished replacement and it seems to be working so far, which is all that matters. I dare not touch the firmware update as, in whatever state the replacement was provided, was presumably QA'd. There does seem to be slight variances in the product as the replacement controller has a marginally stiffer dpad and its default tuning responds much better to uppercut and quarter circle motions. *** UPDATE #2: Replacement controller failed again within a day for exactly the same reason. This controller is inherently flawed. Avoid. Back to one star. Hori was contacted but hasn't replied and/or request was ignored.

Good overall, d-pad is very stiff. The biggest downside is that it doesn't rest well in the hands. Not comfortable at all when holding it.
