Wipe right away when wet, season well!
WHY I CHOSE THIS PRODUCT: to be honest, SALT is probably the MOST USED seasoning in my pantry. This product holds only ONE type so I decided the one seasoning holder is better than a two hole seasoning holder. It was also the cheapest one by 10 cents to the next cheapest one so this salt holder definitely made the cut!COMES WITH: 1 seasoning holder with lid and basic instructions.MATERIAL: it is made from wood. You can see the natural patterns and color of the wood.WHY THIS GETS 5 STARS: The day I received the salt box I read the little instructions and rinsed the box, dried then oiled. I read on the instructions to quickly wipe down wet areas to avoid cracking and warping.Well I got distracted and left the lid on the dish rack while soaking wet. Later when I remembered, the lid was totally cracked!!!I wanted to cry and was thinking maybe I can use a hot glue gun and close the gap on the lid so that salt doesn't pour out and keep bugs away.Well since it was dry I went ahead and oiled it anyway. I expected it to dry the next day and I can put salt inside, then fix it up with a hot glue gun.Well the next day I looked at the lid and the gap had slowly closed!!!! On the third day (day after oiling) it has completely disappeared.TROUBLESHOOTING: if you rinse your lid and it CRACKS, moisturize/season with oil (I used olive oil) and place lid on bowl. Any cracks would probably get smaller.LID VS SLIDING LID: at first i looked at a sliding lid salt box. That way I dont have to worry about looking for a place to put the lid. Upon careful examination...sliding a lid with one hand sounfs difficult. Using a salt box with a lid just is more simple.

NOT FOOD SAFE. Arrived completely coated in some sort of powder and looked moldy
Description claims you can use for herbs and salt. But it's Funky! Not at all what the item photos represent. And no where is this weird powder mentioned. I was assuming it was a stain of some sort but not sure what the substance is. And since it is not listed or mentioned. I rinsed off the container and dried it and then oiled it. But in wiping it down several times the reddish powder was still coming off on the fourth wipe down.I am returning. I can not recommend this container for food storage!

It is OK, not great.
The build quality on this salt pig is very low. Sure, it holds salt, but the cover is very cheap and lose fitting. The handle on the top is literally tacked on with a brad nail.It does look nice, especially once you oil it--I used Boos Mystery Oil, which not only seals it, but makes the grain pop much better. In sum, it is ok. I would feel pretty cheap if I gave it as a gift. All in all, I think I should have gone with glass...

Handy product but odd shaped lid?
Does the job but not like images. Seems to have arrived with a coating of oil that kind of changed the color of the wood to red? I could always stain it again. And the lid seems off center and doesn’t fit perfect. It could just be hand-made results though. Overall, the lid closes and I filled it with special sea salt flakes. Great to have it handy in the kitchen. Happy with purchase.

Could be better finished
I bought this as a salt cellar but it arrived with sawdust inside and looking a little rough outside. It was going to cost $6 shipping to return it, so I still have it -- otherwise I would have sent it back. I think it's probably an okay product but just not especially well-finished. A little extra attention is probably needed. I can clean it up and run some sandpaper over the exterior; we'll see if that helps. Not sure how/if I'll use it, though.

Ideal stove-side salt box
I find this an ideal container for salt near my stove. Wooden - so not breakable, even when handled with damp hands, shaped from a single hollowed-out piece, with the top made from the same piece. The top, with a knob, is easily removable, and since it has the same shape as the box, it fits closely.

Beautiful product and amazing customer service
This company is absolutely wonderful to work with. When my salt holder came - the lid did not fit well. The company promptly responded to my email and corrected the issue - without any hesitation.I purchased this to hold my salt in my Costa Rican kitchen - where the humidity makes salt turn into a rock! I love this beautiful wood salt holder - it is well made and matches the item description perfectly. I will re-post after I have used it for a while to inform whether or not I will have salt that will cooperate with my cooking demands. Thank you Ecosall for your excellent customer service! I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Moldy Cellar
This salt cellar came covered in mold. It smells, is fuzzy, and has nice yellow mold cultures all on the inside and outside of the container. Authentic, but not what I was going for at all.
