An alternative to parchment
I use a lot of parchment paper for baking. I mean, a lot… I have rolls, sheets, rounds in various sizes, and ever air fryer parchment baskets.I just started using these silicone baking “slings,” which are basically like the classic Silpat mats but with handles, making them easy to lift. I’ve often made slings out of parchment paper, especially for delicate treats like brownies that need to be handled carefully, lest they crumble into an incoherent (but admittedly still tasty) mess. These slings are meant to go into existing oven-safe pots, Dutch ovens, and pans, providing a non-stick base and a pair of lifting handles. Last night I tried the round one out in a stainless steel pot (see photo) and made a batch of brownies to see how it would do. I picked that particular pot because the sling fit really well and the pot is an excellent conductor of oven heat, which contributes to even baking. I did take the precaution of oiling the pot just above the mat so the sides of the brownies wouldn’t stick there. When the brownies cooled, I gently separated the edge using a knife and lifted the whole thing out. Perfection! The delicate “brownie pie” came out in one (tasty) piece (see second photo).I haven’t used these for bread yet since I seem to be going through a focaccia/flatbread phase, but I’m looking forward to making some “boules” in my Dutch oven. I would love to see these baking slings in a square format – either 8”x8” or 9”x9” which are standard sizes for brownies, cobblers, and other small, square bakes, as well as similarly sized circles for cakes and everything else.My only concern – and it applies to this approach rather than to these specific KITMAL slings, which are excellent – is that when the handles bend up, out of the pot or pan – they leave a little gap. They have to, it’s just the nature of the product. If your baking surface is a bit larger than the mat, and you’ve appropriately oiled, or buttered, or sprayed the exposed parts of your pan, that’s not really a concern. But for a tight fit, like my brownie experiment, you have to pay attention to keep the dough or batter from going underneath, into the gaps around the handles. For a thicker dough rather than a more liquid batter, it wouldn’t be much of a concern.I really like these slings and I’d love to see them come out in other sizes and shapes. Now…what should I do with all that extra parchment?

Save on parchment paper
This is a great option that can help you save on parchment paper. Love the longer “handles” that make it easier to drop and lift your dough in/out of the Dutch oven. Only wish they were heat resistant so make sure you still wear oven mits when handling them after baking. Super easy to clean and store.

Great purchase!
I use these for many things, but mainly for when I am baking bread in a dutch oven. Sometimes the bottom will burn, and I have found that these slings work great. I'll put them in the bottom of the Dutch oven, and place the the parchment paper with the bread dough right on top of the sling. No more burnt bottoms! And much easier to take out of the scalding hot Dutch oven

Don't walk, run!
This is by far the best purchase for avid bakers. It saves the cleaning of your dutch oven in-between batches of baking. Highly recommend!

Great slings
These slings work great for transferring my bread into and out of my Dutch ovens. I like them so much that I bought a second set. I now have two rounds and two ovals so I can bake boules or batards. Highly recommend!
