Arguably the best that money can buy right now
After having owned my trusted Astro A50 Gen 4s for just under 3 years, I was extremely curious to see what Logitech have done to improve the original design after the acquisition. To give some context, the A50 Gen 4 were already an almost perfect set of headphones - they have amazing audio quality, have supreme comfort for long gaming sessions, full bandwidth Wi-Fi connectivity (meaning you get full quality audio in and out), handy charging station so your headset is always ready for your gaming session... Having compared them against many other headsets I was left enamoured. Having said that, they were not perfect - the battery life was short, charging times were long, the ASTRO control centre on PC was a terrible piece of software and the mic quality left much to be desired. With all that context out of the way, how is the A50 Gen5/ A50 X? I am very happy to report that they are not only as good as the Gen4s, but they also have fixed ALL of the issues that plagued the previous generation. * Sound - the sound profile is slightly different, presumably due to different drivers, however music still sounds superb on these and you can get quite some thump out of these headphones, especially if you switch the earcups to leather/leather-like ones. * Comfort - exactly as it was before, with just a smidge less clamping pressure, so should actually be even more comfortable for longer sessions, though may not stay on your head quite as well as before. As a bonus, the top cushioning no longer slips out of the headband, which was a huge problem with the Gen 4s. * Mic quality - far superior to last gen and brings these headphones in line with proper dedicated mics. * Software - now uses Logitech's G HUB software, which is leaps and bounds better than the Astro Command Centre * Battery life - Double that of the previous gen, putting these at roughly 24 hours, far in excess of what the vast majority of people would need, considering the base station now also offers much quicker charging compared to the Gen 4s. Some other honourable mentions are - uses the same accessories as the Gen 4 (for instance the modkit), can be used with both PlayStation and Xbox (instead of having to buy separate models for the different consoles (and the A50 X even supports full 24 bit audio on the consoles)), now has bluetooth functionality (so can be used with your phone if you wish)... The only controversial things about these headphones are the cost and noise isolation. Cost wise... they are very expensive. Having said that, this is a buy once cry once type of product. It may be pricey, however it has all of the accolades to make an excellent headset and for me personally this is a cost worth paying for the most premium experience possible. Also, if you only plan on using these on PC, you may as well get the A50 Gen5, which are a little cheaper and the only things you lose are the audio/voice mixing and 24 bit audio on console (PC use is unaffected). Isolation wise - these do not have great passive isolation and have no noise cancellation. If you are used to the comfort of tuning the whole world outside your headphones, these will not do it for you, though this is a matter of preference and I personally am unaffected. Overall, though, despite the cost, I wholeheartedly recommend this product. These are by far my favourite headphones currently available in the market and I hope to keep them for a long time coming.

Flagship-Level Gaming Headset with Unmatched Versatility.
The Logitech G Astro A50 Gen 5 is a powerhouse in the world of gaming audio. This headset brings a lot to the table, especially with its PRO-G Graphene audio drivers, multi-system compatibility, and LIGHTSPEED wireless tech. From console to PC to handheld, it’s built for serious gamers who want premium performance across platforms. Sound quality is incredibly sharp and immersive. Whether you’re hearing enemy footsteps in a shooter or ambient details in an open-world RPG, the spatial awareness and clarity are next-level. The 3-system switching (Xbox/PlayStation/PC & more) is brilliantly executed — no need to re-pair or switch cables manually. Just tap the base station to toggle systems. Huge time-saver. Comfort-wise, the earcups are plush and breathable, and the overall design is surprisingly light for a feature-rich wireless headset. Battery life is excellent, and USB-C charging is a welcome update. Bluetooth support adds extra flexibility, letting you mix in phone calls or music during gameplay — something the older versions lacked. The charging base station is compact and reliable, giving a clear battery readout and fast pairing. ⸻ Pros: • PRO-G Graphene drivers deliver incredibly detailed, crisp sound • Seamless 3-system switching (Xbox, PS5, PC/Mac, Switch) • LIGHTSPEED wireless tech = low latency and stable connection • Bluetooth support for mobile audio or multitasking • Comfortable, lightweight, premium build • Great battery life and fast USB-C charging • Works flawlessly with next-gen consoles and multiple setups Cons: • Expensive, but justified by the feature set • Some EQ adjustments require Logitech G HUB, which can be fiddly • No active noise cancelling (though passive isolation is solid) ⸻ If you’re a multi-platform gamer or a streamer looking for convenience, versatility, and world-class sound in one package, the A50 Gen 5 is a top-tier choice. Logitech has taken an already excellent headset and made it even better.

Perfect All in one Headset for Gaming and Mobile Use
I bought the Logitech G Astro A50 LIGHTSPEED headset for my son, and it’s been an absolute game-changer for his gaming experience. He uses it across multiple devices—PS5, Nintendo Switch, and even his mobile phone—and it works flawlessly with all of them. The sound quality is incredible. The immersive audio makes every game more enjoyable, with crisp highs and deep lows. My son is especially impressed with the clarity of the microphone—his friends on voice chat can hear him perfectly, and he loves the adjustable boom mic that he can easily flip up when not in use. The wireless connection is super reliable, with no noticeable lag, even when he switches between devices. Setting it up was a breeze, and it automatically syncs with each platform. The comfort level is great too; the ear cups are plush and soft, so he can wear it for hours without discomfort. The battery life is impressive, lasting long enough for even the most extended gaming sessions. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. It’s well worth the investment and has exceeded all expectations. If you’re looking for a versatile, high-quality gaming headset for multiple platforms, the Logitech G Astro A50 LIGHTSPEED is definitely the way to go! My son absolutely loves it!

Extremely nervous buying this.
As an owner of the astro a50 gen 2 (ps4) from March 2015 right the way up to August 2020, I was quite sad to see them come to the end of their life. Solid build quality. Not the best battery life, roughly 7 hours and getting shorter over time. The sound was amazing. They only broke because of me, thinking the headband was compatible with the mod kits. I was wrong. But overall, a very good headset that delivered what it promised great sound quality. My next logical step was the astro a50 gen 4. Better battery, better more refined sound, now wireless charging, and that was a big draw for me since the cable to charge the gen 2 was garbage. I bought several along the way and all broke at some stage lol. But we're definately on to a winner here with the new one. Absolutely NOT! The Paint peeled ALL over the headset. Felt somewhat worse build quality, very flimsy for instance and not as strong. The sound shut off when I turned off an app like YouTube or twitch for instance. Had to reset ps5 to get sound back (though I must specify this was with the astro adapter specially built for ps5. In the end I plugged the digital optical cable directly in to the TV and never had that issue ever again). But most annoyingly, the base station now failed to charge the headset when set up on the ps5 in rest mode. It worked fine for the first 2 weeks. But Sony released several ps5 firmware updates and one of them interfered with the power output to charge things when in rest mode (controllers were fine). Very annoying. Strong points were indeed better battery life, and sound quality was excellent as before. Earlier this year I spot the astro a50x. Didn't realise they were even a thing. So I was somewhat skeptical now having not had a great experience with the gen4. I watched the reviews, and they were positive across the board with one or 2 issues. So this potentially was going to be an expensive mistake. I am however very happy to report that the astro a50x, though, is absolutely excellent. Much better build quality. Excellent sound. Greatly improved battery life. Paint coating doesn't peel thankfully. No app whatsoever shuts off the sound when I close it. I can take phone calls with this one via Bluetooth connection to my mobile. I can set up the sound presets on the phone app available on the android store. But above all els, I now have a headset that finally charges on the base station 😂. Look, it's expensive. But it does however come with both xbox and pc support on top on the ps5 support all in one. I will say this, I love this headset.

Superb
Rarely write reviews but had to for these. Engineers should be proud of this one. Mic quality is stupendous. The sound is remarkable. I prefer listening to these than my EQ'd sennheiser 490 pro or 600. Of course those are slightly more detail resolving than the a50 gen 5 but that is NOT necessarily a good thing in a lot of siblant songs. These are very nicely detailed without being siblant. The ear cushions let a lot of sound in and only really muffle bass tones. This is subjective but personally I think this is preferable for most people and fantastic for me since the sidetone can be minimal. The sidetone is exceptional, can't imagine how it could be tuned any better, perhaps with slightly more bass but it's so marginal I'm not sure I'm correct on that one. Much better sidetone than the blackshark v2 pro. Range was mentioned as being not as good as other headsets but I get better range with this than I do with the sony wh1000xm3 with bluetooth SBC codec, so to the other side of my flat through two walls, and obviously in a flat with lots of interference. Logitech app is clean and funcitonal. The dock is very nicely weighted and well made as are the headphones. The dock is very slightly fiddly to use but a little jiggle to get them charging once in a while is barely a complaint and as an engineer myself I wouldn't know how to easily improve it. They also come with a charging puck if you dont want to use the dock. Incredible headphones with no shortfalls for what I want. Can tell the engineers focused on all the important details and the result is sublime.

A50 Stuck on xbox mode and connectivity issues. DO NOT BUY
Would not normally review but due to the price of this item i feel i have to. This headset was great to begin with, great simple connectivity, crisp microphone and great overall sound quality. Today i turned my computer on as usual and found out the headset was stuck on xbox mode and after doing some research found out this is a common problem that can occur randomly and is un fixable meaning that the headset is now unusable as i cannot connect to the pc. luckily i have one day left for my amazon returns and i will be using it to get my money back. Just be cautious as its expensive and logitech support i found to be poor. WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN.

An excellent headset, mainly held back by the price
I think this headset finally hits the mark on everything I actually care about: 1. Battery life is not amazing in itself, but is decent (mainly now compared to the headsets that can last 100-300 hours compared to this at 24 hours). This is a none-issue though thanks to the dock - take it off, put it down and it's on charge and always ready to go. Perfect. 2. Comfort is great. It's quite lightweight, and the clamping force is just right for me at least. The stock ear pads are okay, but I'm not personally a big fan of fabric so did replace them with some Wicked Cushions - if you do like fabric pads then I think the stock pads are very nice otherwise. The swivel of the cups makes it sit snugly on your head, and also makes it easy to drop it down to rest on your neck / chest if you need to take them off temporarily. 3. Sound quality is very good, but I do feel like it sounds a bit muffled. I solved this with the EQ though just by boosting the treble and now it does sound great. Bass is excellent, if quite overpowering, so I also toned that down a little. A more neutral out of the box setup would've been more ideal. 4. Microphone quality is stellar, it's the best on any wireless headset I've tried, and you could easily be convinced it was a wired headset, or potentially even something much more professional (e.g. watch Hardware Canucks' video on this headset, can you tell when they swap to using the headset?) 5. Cost is very high, but it is a very complete package. I'm just using this on the PC, so the dock and it's HDMI switching features are wasted on me, but I wanted all of the above which simply don't seem to be available all together in any other wireless headset I've seen, and I've tested quite a few now. Cost does hold this one back. Maybe they could offer a simpler PC-only dock to drop the price so it only supports charging and the wireless functions? Or even just an option to only get the headset itself with a USB dongle to allow USB-C charging using the USB-C port on the headset without a dock involved at all? TL;DR: All in all, it's a very complete package. You pay a premium for it, for sure. For me, that was worth it, because I wanted great sound quality, great microphone quality, great battery life, and great comfort all in one, which I just couldn't find anywhere else. So far I'm very pleased with this headset, so we'll see how well it holds up in terms of build quality over time.
