How A Box-Set Should Be Done
There's enough repetitive gushing out there about AfD's merits (or otherwise) and I'm guessing if you're thinking about buying this you don't need convincing. What I will say is that this is a really high-quality box-set. I've bought a few over the years from various bands and have seen most of the sins: (a) few rarities/little unheard music (b) poor remastering/repeats what you've already heard (c) lazy booklets (d) cheap packaging (e) grudgingly giving fans as little as possible for as much cash as possible...None of which applies to the AfD super-deluxe: this is a masterclass in how to do an anniversary box-set. The remastering really livens up the main album. The 5.1 mix is intriguingly different and made me hear the songs afresh. The session/live material is pretty comprehensive and varied (it could do with a few more unknowns or wild deviations but it does the right thing by focusing on particular songs and sessions in detail). The box itself is really well made and did surprise me, loved the embossed cover - you can tell someone actually cared about how this would look and feel which makes SUCH a difference. The booklet, so often wildly neglected, is stunning. Chronologically arranged gig memorabilia, substantial quantities of band and gig photography, label/PR letters and releases, photography of all the releases of the era including promos and rarities - it kept me looking. The only hole I could pick would be that it could benefit from an essay or oral history detailing the era/album, or something describing the development of the songs (liner notes from the Jimi Hendrix estate are a masterclass) but what the hey!

The ultimate edition of this masterpiece.
Appetite for Destruction is that kind of surprise that most of people despise, yet begin to admire and fall in love with after those crazy years. Ranked among these greatest albums ever made, it finally has its own "Ultimate Edition". With a ghuge amount of files and bonus tracks, it can take your breath away just as before. Too bad, IMO, considering the original design art is not included, the size of the boxset should be as wide as a vinyl, so fans could put the vinyl into it as well.

Paradise city all around you
I was keen about the 5.1 mix and the 5.1 mix doesn't dissapoint one second. The mix adds also more spectrum than the normal CD.

Dead moth in the temporary tattoos
I bought this for my boyfriends Christmas present. He loves G’n’R and is a collector of vinyls and box sets and likes them to be kept pristine. He opened this one and when he got to the temporary tattoos we found a dead moth squished under the protective plastic (there’s photos I just can’t attach). He loves the box set but is understandably annoyed that it’s slightly ruined by a dead, flat moth. Not very good for a product costing over £100.

They have never sounded this good!
The remaster of the original twelve tracks is faithful to the original intent. The bass and rhythm guitar are not drowned out by the lead. The drum track is clear and hard hitting. A hard hitting rock and roll experience. The second disc is really just recycled officially released music without much change to my ears. The third and fourth disc is what really brings this set alive. Most of thesetracks on discs three and four are known to diehard fans and have been circulating since the 80's. However, they have never sounded this good. They are raw, not polished up album tracks. They show the band rehearsing and recording in the studio. Although some of the tunes are easily forgettable but the raw emotion in both November Rain versions is undeniable. Move to the City in 1986 really showcases how personally and professionally close these guys were back then. The sped up, punk inspired versions of the Rolling Stones' Jumping Jack Flash and Elvis' Heartbreak Hotel will push you back in your seat if you have never heard them before. Overall, if you love the Gunners, The Super Deluxe is the versin to get. All the flyers are cool for a minute. The book adds insight into the individual songs giving you a glimpse into not only the band members but the record label at the time with lots of notes about everything in this box. Is the price worth it? Only if you want to expereince something new and unpolished from GN'R. If you only like the main catalog of them, pick up the two CD deluxe to grab the remasted album with a few bonus tracks sprinkled in. However, only this set contains the blu-ray. The 5.1 remastering is superb. If you have a proper set up, the sound field will blow you away. We all know how surround is for movies. Apply a good surround mix to music and it sounds like you are dead center of the recording of the album. Superb!
