Vastly exceeded my expectations. High quality and great value.
I can't speak to the quality of the on-board sounds. I'm exclusively using my PD-705 to trigger drum plugins such as GetGoodDrums and Addictive Drums 2 on my computer (and you should too!) To that end this unit has been perfect for my needs. Even at low threshold settings I'm getting zero crosstalk between pads. The sensitivity setting offers a lot of flexibility and it didn't take long to get things feeling good. The Log/Exp velocity curves and two-voice layering gives a lot of control over dynamics without even having to touch the plugins' settings. It also works perfectly with my Roland KT-10 kick trigger. My goal was to make a compact "Closet E-Kit" that I could use in my home studio without bothering anyone outside. I paired my PD-705 with a Zildjian L80 Low Volume Hi Hat (going into my headphones via SM57) and I'm blown away at how capable this little setup is. Gotta do fills with T-Rex arms (lol) but the foot positions are like a real kit and it's surprisingly addictive to jam on. Highly recommended if you don't want to go the full e-kit route but still want something that feels good to play. I plan to expand mine with a mesh snare and maybe a couple cymbal pads, but I've been using it like this for two weeks now and could keep it as is. There's enough pads for everything I need in my typical kit setup (snare, two toms, two crashes, ride, bell, snare rim). Hopefully it has the same durability as bigger brands. I will update the review if things start wearing out sooner than expected. But for now I couldn't be happier.

Excellent value and great sounds
This sampling pad far exceeded my expectations in many ways. It is built well and has a lot of creative and excellent features. I actually would grade this a five out of five stars for the unit itself. However, the software aspect is a little lacking. There are no clear instructions and unless you’ve had another device like this, it will be difficult for you to navigate through on your first time. Unlike the software, the sampling pad itself is very intuitive. Ultimately, this is great value for what you get and it seems to be working great after several weeks of playing. I strongly recommend to get a stand for this unit.

Great value.
This is my second unit first one had some issues with the headphone output and speaker/amp output would intermittently pop, Sound while playing. The unit is made well looks professional and it sounds really good and easy to customize the sounds of each kit. I play with a kick pad and foot switch for high hat.

Sluggish Processor and extremely UNRELIABLE MIDI over USB
Slow, laggy processor causes most functions to have significant delay. USB MIDI is easily the worst I have seen on any device, even with latest firmware as of now. It doesn't send MIDI data to DAW consistently, seeming to be a processor delay. It'll send fast 16ths and then won't send a note for 1/2 a bar. Its consistently inconsistent in sending MIDI data, even with sensitivity maxed, threshold, retrigger time, ans crosstalk minimized. Its sluggish and slow to navigate on screen also. I didn't bother with the built-in sounds b/c I got this for MIDI triggering. Octapad, Alexis Strike, DTX-Multi, and SPD-SX all trigger consistently. I just want a cheap, multipad midi controller... why is this such a hard ask?

It's ok
It's an inexpensive option for a sample pad. The fact that you can easily put your own sounds or accompaniment on it makes it worth while. The pads are not consistent t. The quality is ok. It's a fun toy and might work well for someone that's really good with this stuff.

Best of its tier
The PD705 is a 3rd tier product that looks and feels like the Roland SPD-SX. It functions as a live stand-alone or midi multi-pad percussion tool. Very similar features as the Roland SPD-SX: computer interface, sample import, button functionality, external outs. The reason this product is a 3-tier and not a 5-tier is the functionality: there is cross-talk with the upper pads which is common with the Alesis SamplePad Pro; the features are not user friendly. If you’re a newbie to this type of machine, it will not be the easiest to learn the advanced features; and lastly the customer support is non existent. The biggest reason companies succeed or fail is their service. This product was released and has 0 support. I gave this product a 5 star because for it’s tier, it is far better than its predecessor.
