Yep! just what I needed
I was looking for a home printer that held a descent quantity of paper and ink, that printed fast with no frills.Yep! This does exactly that, fast high quality printing. The paper tray holds a life-time of paper, the ink cartridges would fill a swimming pool and reverse printing is effortless and instant. If you are looking for a trendy high tech device , don't bother. This is the home printers equivalent of the Ford Fiesta.I like it a lot, the wireless set up was simple and the instructions absorbed in 5 mins.We have been using this for the past 2 months and it suits our needs superbly. We need to be able to print on most types of paper and several thicknesses of card.On the negative side, not a lot really- It looks a bit like a Big black bread bin and there is no scanner(which could be a major issue if you don't have an alternative device).I use my old epson sk445 printer as my scanner, it failed as a printer the wireless features make storage of modern printers easy to place them around the house without any problems.

A good printer at a fair price
I bought this after my Canon Pixma IP4600 bit the dust- something I do not regret. My first impression is the Officejet 8100e is a good printer. It is fast, the type is crisp and clear and a decently good black too, not "charcoal" as described by some reviewers. The colour output is good, but I still have to print some photographs - the Canon was good for this. Another bonus is the ink tanks are huge at two and a half to three times the capacity of my former Canon printer, and just a little more expensive (80 ml - black, 30 ml - colours). There is no separate photo- black though as on the Canon. I am less impressed by the printer's networking ability. After a long struggle I connected it to my network by "happy chance" rather than anything else. In addition, bought the "Tray 2" additional sheet feeder from another supplier, and it works well with the printer, but the set up was a bit fiddly as I use two different sizes of paper for my work.I think this is my third or fourth HP printer, it's solid and well built, and if it lasts as long as the others I'll be a happy man. I would have given it five stars were it not for the difficulties I had setting up the wireless connection, and the less than intuitive way you have to set the printer up to handle two different paper sizes. Oh, and another thing, the documentation is just OK - I am afraid I am one of those guys who likes nice thick instruction manuals not the single sheet and few pages you get these days.

Good hardware, pity about the software
As usual, HP makes great printers, at least on the hardware side. What a pity they can't get the software sorted out, as this really lets the side down...My old HP wireless 'all-in-one' stopped working, so I made sure this time to buy a printer-only model, as I never really use the scan and copy functions, and all the extra software that comes with those pretty much just irritates me, especially the way HP insists on installing all sorts of applications and demo versions and customer feedback systems and what-not, without as much as by-your-leave.The wireless networking software of my old HP was really flaky, but I thought that since this model was billed as a more professional choice, and also it is a printer-only, I thought I'd get something more straightforward and reliable on the wireless networking side. Alas, this didn't prove to be the case. The printer is a hassle to get up and running in more ways than one.Firstly, the documentation is absolute rubbish, so bad that I almost returned the whole thing because of that. The instructions bear no resemblance to reality, it's almost as if they're written for a different model, and in any case the printed material at least is woefully inadequate. Secondly, the software installation doesn't go through until you apply various patches and updates, and even then the Mac installation is far from smooth (the Windows one seems to go through better). The biggest problem, however, is with the networking: although the printer finds my WLAN and you can get into its management module via a browser (as long as you know its IP address), printing wirelessly is not possible until after a lot of fiddling, repeated attempts at installing the various bits of the software, updating your operating systems, etc. And even then, the next day it had somehow lost the network, and I had to do everything again. :-( I think all in all I spent nearly ten hours getting it up and running, and came very close to packing it up and sending it back. Not good enough, HP!The ePrint (printing via the web) seems to work relatively smoothly, and so far better than expected. I didn't think it would, nor did I consider this to be a particularly valuable or interesting function, but I'm starting to see the point of it.So all in all, a good printer once you get it operational, but be prepared to tear a good chunk of your hair out in the process. (If you don't need the wireless printing, then it's probably a piece of cake, but then again why would you buy a wireless printer in that case...?!)

Unable to review
This may well be a perfectly good printer as the reviews suggest but my unit arrived damaged so I am unable to comment!

Problem Printer
The printer I received printed very well on thin plain paper. It would not pick up and print on photo paper or thin card. I tried more than one type. A long, and expensive, telephone call to the HP help desk did not solve the problem. I received a replacement printer from Amazon but that had the same problem. If you are thinking of buying this printer beware. It does not do photo paper or thin card.

Great Printer
This is a great printer for the money. We don't use it a great deal, but every time we switch it on the print is good. Never had issues with drying ink on the nozzles. The wireless printing is great too. Very easy to set up all the lap tops and PC to wireless print.
