Great little unit and great price
This is an excellent product to purchase. Originally I had ordered the 4 bay unit but had issues with the software and general use of the permissions. Not only that, with being only a 4 bay unit, I was limited to drives to use and with the ability to use TRAID, a larger unit (6 Bay) would be better. I had returned the unit and then purchased the 6 bay unit when it became available (at the time 4 bay was only available). Thankfully after a few months of waiting, software by Terramaster had improved and the setup process is much better. I would advise anyone considering this unit to look at some of the reviews by NAScompares to understand the functionality and setup process. Noise level of the unit is quite noisy, so would keep either this locked in a cupboard. As there is no storage on this unit, please have at least 3 hard drives to populate, along with purchasing an SSD for much better performance. If you setup the unit with just mechanical hard drives, you will find it runs quite slow. Also purchase an extra 32GB RAM to speed up processing. I am running PLEX on this unit and streaming is much better with the encoding done by this i5 processor.

Very unreliable. If you want to spend your life saving your data. Buy this product.
Easy to build and configure, but a week after building and transferring 7TB of data, it started hanging and going off line every 4-5 days (3 times, requiring a hard power off, before I had to reinstall the OS).Tech support was of the "Reboot" & "Reinstall OS" type, not technically impressive.having recently reinstalled the OS, (now day 3 and still running), I'm hoping it will now prove reliable.Reliability is the most important aspect of a NAS! Fingers crossed!Further updat after a couple of months of ownership.Support consists of “ Reboot” and “Reinstall” very little expertise demonstrated. And I would know with 30 years in IT.Lost access to the data a further two times. Each time asked to rebuild the OS and the the 2nd time also asked to upgrade the OS one revision. The the latest issue, called by my wife whilst away on business and told that the array was beeping constantly. Found it had sent me an email telling me that the RAID was degraded! Will have to spend another 4 hours sorting that out on my return!I just want my money back back. A NAS is supposed to make you feel confident about the security of your data!

A Good Entry Level Unit For Those On A Budget
The media could not be loaded. Hello and welcome to my review of the Terramaster F6-424.The TL;DR is that overall, the unit scores a 4 out of 5.Value for Money - 4: With the £100 off I got—and even without it—I think it's one of the most aggressively priced options on the market for my needs.TOS - 3: While it has plenty to offer, sometimes it's just got a lot going on, and it can be confusing and daunting for those new to the NAS software space. You're going to need to do your homework and spend some time reading. Don't just go in blind like I did.Customer Service - 5: Great team that is responsive and friendly.Design - 4: Small and sleek. While it's plastic, it's still a good-looking device.Who is this for? People who need a lot of storage, don't mind putting a little more work to get things going, and are more price-conscious.I'll start this review by saying that I had previously purchased a D5-300C. I was really happy with the product as it allowed me to really increase the external storage of my mini PC workstation, which only has internal M.2 NVMe's. With that bit of context out of the way, I was shopping around for a NAS, which I wanted as a simpler solution for myself and my family. Now, I already have Plex running on my server, and this was meant to be a cloud storage solution that would provide me with a user-friendly interface as well as make things more accessible for a family that really hates anything that requires more than just a simple login. So after obsessively reading around on the internet and watching more hours of YouTube NAS reviews than should be healthy for one person, I landed on the Terramaster F6-424. A few things brought me to this model. Firstly, it's got plenty of space: 6 hard drive bays and 2 NVMe slots. Plus, I loved the fact that it supports drives of 24 TB capacity each, which means 144 TB on the 6 slots. At the time of purchasing, this included a £100 discount; frankly, it was a deal that was too good not to take. Now here's the part where we also need to get real... Not really sure why you would need 144 TB, but equally... I understand, I'm a data hoarder too.Now let's get to the actual unit itself—I really love the sleek black look of the box, and honestly, the old Terramaster design to me was very cute; the new one is more sophisticated for sure. I personally like to keep devices like this hidden away, but if you were to have it on a desk, it would look pretty great (just be careful of buying noisy refurbished drives). Also, the little bays are very easy to access, aside from the M.2 slots, which you will need to unscrew the unit to get to.My initial experience when I got the unit, aside from the look and principle, I must say wasn't really great. I sadly had a noisy fan, which meant every time things spun up, it got way, way too loud for me, to the point that I had to open the unit and disconnect one completely. This was pretty upsetting, and I emailed customer service, who were nice enough to send me some parts. Frankly, the rate at which they were able to help was really great. They single-handedly saved me from returning the unit and moving to some other brand. Now, I may have a bit more of a soft spot for Terramaster here because I do love the overall value that they bring to the table. However, I have to be honest and say that TOS has a lot going on, and frankly, some of it can be quite confusing for the average consumer. In a way, it's a bit of a hodgepodge of systems that, if you don't completely understand it all, it's likely to give you some really mixed or frustrating feelings. The Good:- They have a dedicated Mac and iPhone app, which means you can see your files and back up your photos, which is pretty handy.- I was abroad for a bit and got to use the TOS web app to connect to the NAS back home, which was fun.- It's got a small footprint, meaning it won't take up too much space in your workplace or home, plus you can have it somewhere pretty remote in the house. The Bad:- TOS can be rather confusing, and you need to spend time doing your homework, especially if this is your first time using a NAS OS.- Sync times can really take a while—but that's what you have to contend with when you are installing a bunch of 24 TB drives and using TRAID. My advice is to add them gradually, not all at once. All in all, while it was a shaky start, I have to say I'm still going to keep my unit and keep working with TOS, seeing how I can get the most out of it. I do have to say that in a world of iPhones, we all just expect things to work without putting in much effort. I had my moment of frustration, took a breath, and actually started to read and spend more time with the OS. What I've found is that TOS has a lot of depth, and frankly, some of it is more than I need right now, but it's great to know that if I ever need to scale my data housing solutions for my family, it's all there waiting for me.Hope this helped :)

Best 5 Bay NAS for the money
So I've had this NAS a little over 2 years now, so figure it's a good time to comment on it's performance. It's mainly used as storage for a Plex server that runs outside of the NAS (not a fan of Docker etc) in the two years I've been using it I think I've had to maybe reboot it 4-5 times due to power cuts or updates. It's never just stopped working for no reason. Previous NAS units I had would just stop showing up and needed powering down. The TOS software is functional, as I don't really dabble too much and just let it get on with doing what it does this doesn't bother me too much, but I have heard that the latest version 5 is much better than before. It does have multiple apps on the store so you can run direct from the NAS if you so wish. All in all this is a great price for a 5 Bay NAS which is more than capable of doubling as a Plex server too if so wished.
