Give Us A Wink

My favorite Sweet album when I was a teenager. It is great to listen and enjoy these songs again.

I bought this album when I was in high school. I worked at Best Buy in 1995, and found an import on CD, so I bought that. Through being divorced and moving from place to place, the CD & the album were lost. I love this CD. The song that stands out for me is the last track "Healer". The music is really bad ass and the guitar is funky. Never heard it played on any radio stations at all. The song is excellent and makes the CD worth buying. It's not the more expensive Japanese Import, but I don't care about all the extras that it has. This one is remastered and that's all that matters. 5/5 Stars

Well Worth The Money

Give Us a Wink! was the first all original album from English power-pop rockers Sweet released on this side of the pond. Prior efforts had featured multiple songs penned Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn; the duo had also written for Suzi Quatro and others, and Mike Chapman had actually produced Sweet's previous work, Desolation Boulevard, the first of which was written by Chapman and Chinn. With no contributions for the above pair on Give Us a Wink, the members of the band were free to move in a slightly different direction, though the album throbs from start to finish with their particular brand of power rock. Guitarist Andy Scott showed his facility with other instruments, namely celli on the album's single, "Action," thereby introducing a progressive touch to the music. Scott's guitar playing shows some influence of Tony Iommi, but he was able to develop his own style more on this album than on previous efforts. The rhythm section of Steve Priest on bass and Mick Tucker on drums continued their tight cohesion from earlier works. Even though there are no covers on Give Us a Wink, "Action" was later covered by Def Leppard. All in all, Give Us a Wink is a solid effort, perhaps their definitive work, since subsequent releases, e.g. Off the Record and Level Headed, showed Sweet going in a more commercial direction. Even though the bonus tracks are different versions of songs already on the album, there's enough variation to keep the listener's interest; I don't think they detract from the package as a whole. Give Us a Wink is probably the best representation of Sweet's abilities and a good taste of late 70's British rock.

Great cd for Sweet fans

Sweet is a group from the seventies that a lot of people really forgot about. They know them from a few songs, but the ones you heard on the radio were probably their worst songs (bubble gum/top 40). Their best songs were the true rock and roll that they really jammed on. This album kicks ass. We used to listen to it growing up, drinking beer, and driving 120 mph.

I remember getting this album when I was 15 or 16. Sounds just as good now as it did then.

I would like to thank the seller, Squeezable Sounds. This disc was as good as new and the hand written note was a nice personal touch. I also got the disc a bit earlier than expected. Job well done.

One of Sweets Best Albums, Had to Buy this CD...If you want 70's Hard Hitting rock, this is it.. Vocals, Rhythm, Lead, Bass, Drums, Catchy choruses.. Blew me way...Heard it back in the 80's and still today I cant get enough of it. Also, just to mention that the shipping was fast and excellent condition of the cd. Case was actually replica of the album (without the wink)..

E' un disco che avevo già, anche in vinile. Devo averlo consumato( ce l'ho da quando è uscito) perchè ieri era impossibile leggerlo: panico! Come sempre Amazon provvede. Adoro gli Sweet, ho la loro discografia completa, da sempre. Se amate la musica vera, il rock, ecc. questo gruppo non deve mancare. Io amo i vinili ma provvederò a prendere tutti i loro dischi in cd, solo per non consumare ulteriormente i vinili.
