My Very Exciting, Sorta Scary, Big Move: A workbook for children moving to a new home (My Exciting Move)

I work with foster children and we have two children about to move to long term care. I had tried to find story books which would help them, they are in the 5 - 10 age range. However, I couldn't find any which didn't focus on negative reasons for moving. This book though is such a gift of a find. It will suit the children perfectly as they are activity based, giving plenty of space for them to write their thoughts and feelings. They also focus very much on positive moves to a new home. So they can show pictures of their current room, what they would like in a new room, and what their new room actually looks like, for example. I can't recommend it highly enough, especially for children who are traumatised and need help to work through their emotions about such a massive upheaval in their lives, albeit a positive one. I have bought another copy to show colleagues as well.

My son is 5 and this really helped him with our move. He was so worried but we used a lot of the activities in this book to prepare and now we have moved we will still use the activities such as making new friends, setting up a lemonade stand, getting to know the neighbourhood etc. It really helped him come to terms with our move - definitely recommend this to anyone with children who are feeling apprehensive

I was looking for a book to help my friend support her son with learning difficulties through his first house move. I worked through it with him and his face lit up as he realised he has changes happening all the time which he copes with. This book is simple, clever and fabulous as it takes the reader on a journey of talking about, working through and understanding their own emotions of sadness, worry and anger in relation to moving. It enables the child to develop their own sack of ideas to help them cope. Lots of brilliant practical projects to work on such as a memory box etc I would highly recommend

Fantastic book! Used for my 10 year old who was missing his friends terribly and old house. Worked through this workbook and made such a difference to help him process how he felt and understand why we moved. We did move nine months ago but this was still very effective working through the exercises in the book.Would definitely recommend!

Great activity book. It really gave my daughter some solace about moving and that it wasn’t just her that was experiencing the emotions she had. Would definitely recommend and do it together.

The first few pages in the book were upside down making it very odd to read

This is a wonderful book and very helpful . I bought it for my 5 yr old grandson who moved to Atlanta, the hole family got involved in helping him understand the proses with the help of this beautiful book.
