GLOTRENDS PU41 Quad U.2 to PCIe 4.0 X16 Adapter Without PCIe Bifurcation, Setup Soft U.2 SSD RAID via OS Tool, (PCIe Bifurcation Motherboard is Required)

𝗧𝗟;𝗗𝗥:The GLOTRENDS PU41 adapter works great with all four Intel Optane 905p 1.5TB drives (all pcie gen 3). Low latency, solid performance, and everything stayed cool under load.---𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄:𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗽:- I used this on an ASUS Pro WS TRX50-SAGE motherboard with an AMD Threadripper 7970X (32 cores), testing in **slot two** (x4x4x4x4 support). I’ll probably move it to the first slot later, as that's better for these types of adapters (closer to the CPU, obv having redrivers on your motherboard would make this really not matter), but it worked fine here for now.𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲:- I ran these drives in a ZFS setup (2 vdev mirror), and performance was right on point. Latency stayed low, and bandwidth doubled compared to just using one drive, as expected. Q1 results were as expected after a bit of ZFS tuning.𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁:- These Optane 905p drives do get warm, but with the large fans in my Fractal Torrent case, temps stayed around 50°C—well within the safe range (85°C max).𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆:- No need for external power, just plug them into the adapter, and you're good to go. These are Gen 3 drives, so I didn’t get to test Gen 4 speeds, but everything worked as expected for my setup.Overall, the adapter did what it needed to, kept latency low, and had no issues. I will update this review if anything major comes to light.

Card works perfectly with 4x U.2 NVMe on a Dell Precision 5820 with ProxMox. Thought the card was going to be fragile/droopy due to cost but it's very stable. Nice!!

The U.2 to PCIe adapter works well and does exactly what it’s supposed to, but the build quality is a bit flimsy. You need to handle it carefully during installation to avoid any issues. Once installed, though, it performs reliably. Great value, just wish it felt sturdier.

The pu41 card absolutely cannot run reliably at pcie 4 speed. Drop the bios config to pcie 3 and it works without errors. Since gen 4 is double the speed of gen 3 the circuit timings have much tighter tolerances and this card simply can't handle that. In this case the errors were recoverable, but the entire system (win11) eventually gets slower and slower due to constant bus resets.Tested with a fresh win12 install on a 2-drive raid 1 array on a asrockrack WRX80D8-2T mobo and samsung MZ-QL29600 drives.On top of that it is past the puny 30 day return window, so now I can only use these on pcie 3 systems. Looking for an alternative that actually can run at pcie 4 bus speed.Cannot recommend if you have a pcie 4 bus and ssds, and expect this to run at that speed without errors.

First - Does this do what it claims. YES. It connects 4 NVME U.2 drives and operates as advertised.The issue is heat. It was not designed for front to back airflow so you need additional airflow over the drives to keep temperatures in check. For testing I had a 120MM PWM squirrel cage fan on high blowing across the drives and external temperatures still climbed to the point that the drives were uncomfortably hot to the touch. This is almost certainly perfect for a datacenter or that rack server in your basement but it needs too much airflow to be in the same room with you for any extended period.

This adapter board works with my Xeon server board with VROC. It doesn't require external power input, easier to install and use. Now I can setup another RAID 0 drive with four U.2 NVME drive.
