Tremendous
I usually don't stray far from football and motorbikes when it comes to sporting reads, but this popped up on my recommended list and it sounded interesting enough to give it a go - and how glad I am that I did.A truly fascinating and gripping read that at times feels like it should be fiction. The author has done a great service to those involved with marvellous research to tell their tale, which at times is extremely moving. Interweaving sport, politics and personal struggles all to the background of the looming Second World War. Do no hesitate with this; a tremendous story.

Interesting and quirky read. This book was a fun read, which covers the sporting activity of Bob Sledding. Mostly a historic journey, but intertwined with fascinating stories and facts regarding the development of the sport.Recommended for people who enjoy sporting history and sport development.

A wonderful and interesting read
A wonderful and interesting read. I bought this as I've been interested in Billy Fiske for a number of years now and I was thrilled to see a new book which included a lot of new information and an indepth look not just at his RAF career but obviously his involvement with the Olympic bob teams of 1928 and 1932. This is a very engaging read about those pioneer bobsledders of the early winter Olympics and the story of these men is a fascinating and intriguing read. Very highly recommended.

A Great Read and Inspirational Hero!
A fantastic read! Everything one could ask for-- excitement, humour, great writing, and a truly inspiring hero in Billy Fiske. A pleasure to read, no matter what one's particular interests are-- World War Two, Sports, Life in the Jazz Age, Romance, or all of the above. Should definitely become a mini- series!

Book much wider than its title
Gallantry, physical courage, personal grace, foresightedness, also gossip, horniness, selfishness and greed. This remarkable book covers it all, while vividly portraying the atmosphere of the 30s and 40s in the U.S. , England, Switzerland and Germany illustrated by Olympic champions, movie stars, boxers, politicians, songwriters, history-makers and Damon Runyon characters. It's all here. Great book.

Fascinating and well written story of a really interesting cross section of 'Heroes' which also takes us into a world of pre-war prejudices and racial hatred from some eminent Olympic administrators who did not impress the principal player of this book, one Billy Fiske, who really is a unknown legend.

Wonderfully old-fashioned
The good old days of modern sport come alive in this vivid account of the astonishing live of Billy Fiske. It is not about money, drugs, manipulation or media hype, it is simply about the thrill of being the fastest. More old school a sportsman’s biography cannot be. Some lengthy side stories do not overshadow the nice reading.

A different time, but basically little change in behavior.
Lots of twists and turns. A great read. Makes us realize what a small world we live in.
