My son was looking for a food press that had open grates. He wanted one that would be dishwasher safe also. This item is heavy, has open brakes and is solid stainless steel. He was impressed with the weight and quality.

Nice weight, just wished it could flatten to more easily stow away

I have a steak weight that I've had for about 50 years, and it does an okay job, but this Skeleton Grill Press from the Quality Art Practical Store (QAP) is so much more. It actually does look like a work of art, reminding me of the Starship Enterprise, when viewed from the side. The product page is a bit confused, as it says the press is cast iron in one place, and stainless steel in another. I'm thinking stainless steel. The thing is that my old press is a flat piece of metal, and the problem with that is it can trap moisture under it and steam your steak a bit, which isn't ideal, but this QAP press can't do that. The construction is quite superior, and would make an impressive gift, and in fact it does come with a nice high-quality cloth bag. The product page also says it has a built-in meat tenderizer, but I'm not seeing it, and it talks about wrapping the handle in parachute cord. I don't think parachute cord will be able to stand the heat of my grill, and I don't think the smell of burning nylon would do much for my steaks. No instructions came with the product, so if you want the advertised "perfect grill marks" you will need to oil the press, and preheat it on your grill before applying it to your steak. Experienced grillers would have already known that. I'm tempted to deduct a star or two for the nonsense in the product description, but the product itself is so superior that I can't.

I have always wished I had one of these when cooking bacon, or frying up something in a pan that needed something to weigh it down to cook evenly. Saw this and thought I'd finely try one out. While I haven't tried it out yet, I have no doubt it will preform as required. It looks great. It is heavy and 18/8 stainless steel - not cast iron as advertised. It is easy to assemble - just screw on the handle. I look forward to trying it out on bacon, grilled sandwiches, meat, and everything else I have wished I had one of these for.
