Puts a slight amount of pressure on the center of the record to help flatten it down. Doesn't really change the sonic quality of the record being played. It more or less helps flatten the record down in case there's a slight warp. This one isn't too heavy. Depending on your turntable, you might want to keep it on the lighter side so it doesn't put too much strain on the mechanism of your turntable.

Great product

This has the right weight to it and using it, particularly on lighter/thinner disks and on lower-end players that don't have a patter the full size of the vinyl for it to rest on, will help keep it laying flat which in turn, will help prevent skipping and scratchy noise and sound warping as the needle tries to move across a wobbly surface.For what it's intended, I think this is a good product.My only disappointment is in the packaging. Despite the listing making this look like something associated with a brand, it arrives in a plain little cardboard box with a barcode label and nothing but the product inside.While it's not exactly like this is something that needs instructions, if you were to have randomly gotten this in the mail and you weren't into vinyl enough to know about this kind of thing, you'd have no idea what this was or what it was for.It would look like a really heavy screw-on handle to something or a weird paper weight with a hole on the bottom.I ordered it. I knew what it was for and I'm using it so it's all fine but the presentation has a lot to be desired for a retail product and it is not something that comes in a condition suitable for gifting.

It's a record weight pretty heavy and nice quality.
