Is Seiko going from solar power to conventional battery quartz because of cost?

No. Skim through the Seiko and Citizen watches sold on Amazon. You will notice that some newly released Seiko quartz models are solar-charged, while others are conventional battery powered. Citizen watches are still predominantly Eco-Drive, i.e. solar powered.

To those wondering...and some of you answering completely wrong including amazon...the diameter should be 28.4mm not 40mm which is insane?

Obviously the case is rectangular. I measure 27 mm wide by about 37 mm long lug-to-lug. It feels larger than I was expecting for my medium-sized wrist but not too large, although it might seem large for a small wrist depending the wearer's preference.
