First off I like to sharpen knives as a zen or as a meditation. Just scraping a blade back and forth over a whetstone can be calming. This product does not give me the zen that I am looking for, although it does make it easy to sharpen knives in a hurry.The knife sharpening box that it comes in, I feel, is giftable. I would not have an issue with giving this as a gift. It also came with a nice case for me to keep all the gear together. This is handy when I want to sharpen a knife quickly. The one negative that I found is that the directions can be difficult to understand and it does not explain everything that comes in the box. For example, the case has a leather strop and a wax green cube. Luckily I have experience with sharpening knives and I know what to do with these items. Once I started sharpening my knives I found that it was fun to just roll it back and forth without having to watch my angle. When I was "done" sharpening my knives, I found that they were sharp. Not sharp enough to shave my arm, but sharp enough for me to get into boxes and cut boxes up. Overall I found that this product sharpens knives, but takes the "work" out of sharpening knives.

This product was very well packaged and arrived in excellent condition. There were three pieces inside: The magnetic base, the sharpener, and some sort of belt or strap. I don't know what the strap is for, really. There are instructions but they don't mention the strap and they have no words, and only pictures. The instructions are fairly good, but one does not really know when to use a 15 or 20 degree angle. Also, I think I figured out which was the rough and which was the fine or finishing side, but it's impossible to know for sure. At any rate, I did use it on five knives that were somewhat sharp, but not really. It quickly and easily put a razor edge on the knives, so I must have used it correctly. Work slowly and carefully. The blade is facing up and the knife needs to be rotated half-way though. If you are not precise you could end up with a serious wound... but this is the idea... to get sharp knives. To that end, it works very well.

Made our knives sharper. Easy to use. I wish it is more affordable though.

I used this on all of my knives and I must say, it is a high quality sharpener. I put a razor sharp edge on 7 knives in less than an hour. I love this item.

Works better than I thought it would! Can’t speak of durability yet but it sharpens well and is quick to use.

I’ve seen these style of sharpeners advertised all over. I have quite a few different sharpeners and was skeptical about these. Personally I prefer the bar style sharpener, it’s not to say these are terrible, they just are not imo as good as some of the other sharpeners on the market. Where these are probably more usable is quick honings. Anyhow the kit is very complete comes with everything you’d expect and a nice carrying case.So my biggest issue with these is the safety aspect. It’s not to say it’s dangerous, but it’s not as safe imo as some of my other sharpeners. For example my bar sharpener has a hand guard. If you slip up you won’t cut yourself, these roller style however if you slip you could end up with a good slice, so they include cut proof gloves in the kit. That being said my specific complaints are simple, the magnet isn’t really strong enough that you have put much force into the knife without unseating it, so that is why I say this is probably best for honing and not actually sharpening.It comes with 3 different sharpening stones and no where in the directions or on themselves does it mention what grit they are. Sure you can figure out which is finest and which is the most coarse by looking at them but I’ve got no idea what grit they are so that is my main reason for the 4 stars. If this is the style of sharpener you’re looking for this is a decent value for the price, would I recommend it to a friend or family member… nope, for all the reasons mentioned.

I've waited a while to review this because I wanted to give it another try but frankly I just don't like it. Of course any video you watch makes it seem super simple to get a great edge but that's not my experience. I'll be sticking with my old tried and true:)
