Essentials
Filled with stories that teach, this book presents a great deal of information that kept my rapt attention. I really like the writing style that is straightforward and uncomplicated. I especially appreciate that this topic, as important as it is, has a playful side to it, using games to hone the skills of camouflage, subterfuge, evasion, adaptability, resilience, and intuition. You will find activities to practice awareness and exercises that can help you develop the skills to ease along the landscape in silent movement, reading the concentric rings of life surrounding you.I can’t argue with the author’s assertion that “the oldest survival skills in all of human existence” are ones that that allow humans to act as both the hunter and hunted. Not only children can learn to tap into primal instincts playing these games, but the exercises in the book can be useful for adults. This book shares important perspectives on what it means to hold the wisdom of these skills for a community. The stories were relatable to me. Reading through this, it made me want to get outside, slather on some mud and stalk barefoot in the woods. If you are new to the idea of ancestral skills or a seasoned tracker or naturalist, the book has something for you!

Breaks new ground in survival manuals.
Most survival manuals retread the same old information. Not this one. This book will take your skills to the next level. It's not enough to survive in nature. This book gives you a blueprint for how to thrive using the skills humans used for thousands of years. The author provides an easy-to-use, easy-to-understand blueprint to incorporate into your daily life. I hope he continues the series.

Nothing Special
A few good ideas, mostly very generalized knowledge base with a dash of hocus-pocus. The codified detritus that has been in dozens of books before and will most likely be rehashed in several more in years to come. Save your money.

Informative and SO interesting!
I bought this book for my husband, but in flipping through it before gifting it found it to be equally interesting to me. Nate's stories teach lessons about the subject matter and life in a way that share his wisdom about the world in relatable and entertaining ways. I look forward to the upcoming additions to the series.

Read it. Study it. Apply it.
Do yourself a favor and do more than read this book. Then ask yourself, what is this teaching me?

Good book
Nate’s book ‘Shadow Survival’ has a wealth of information. He has trained with many trackers, survival experts and military and LE personnel. I also like how he incorporates legend and myth not just from the Native American Scouts and Trackers, but also Rangers and Fianna from medieval Europe and the Ninja of Ancient Japan. He points out that no one culture has a monopoly on the skill of awareness and scoutcraft, but a heritage shared by mankind.
