Q: Do you need the bridge in order for this to work or can you just use a dimmer remote or Bluetooth?

You need a Philips Hue bridge. This connect up to 50 devices; e.g. Bulbs etc There are 2 bridges available the old round one and the new square one.

Q: Do theses lamps have a mode where they automatically change colour rather having to select the colour manually?

Yes. Add "Hue" skill to Alexa app and then once you've added your bulbs click on "Scenes" button and you'll find there's already a "Colorloop" scene. So then you just have to say... "Alexa, turn on colorloop in bedroom" and it will make the bedroom bulb go through all the pretty colours. You can adjust the brightness to suit.

Q: hi is this version 2 or version 3? and why does it say mini starter kit?

Going by the pictures, it is the older non-bluetooth bulbs BUT they are the ‘richer colour’ version and because you get the bridge in this kit, there is no need for the bluetooth. It is the ‘mini’ starter kit because it has just the two bulbs. Other starter kits may have more bulbs or different bits like switches etc

Q: Are these generation 2 or 3?

GEN 2, NOT RICHER COLOURS! Amazon is lying about the product description. I bought these as i trusted the description but after going through all the setup the app tells me the bulbs are not compatible with the app options as they are not Richer Colours
