Poi Spinning: A Jam-packed Guide

I bought this book as an aid to learning poi spinning. However, I found that the static drawings and text explanations were inadequate to the task and, in fact, made learning moves more difficult and seemingly inscrutable.

i love poi. kinda hard to show moves in a book but she did a good job. home of poi.com is where u should go unless you go all out on a hobby like me and gotta have the books

This is a fun activity. I'm glad I am playing around with it.

the book was for my son whom is just taken up the art - he says its perfect and very informative through both diagrams and text

Great for beginners and more advance with pictures and descriptions, easy to follow

I paid for the book on the 4th of Oct, didn't receive it for nearly 3 weeks. Great book slow shipping, and no real way to check on shipping status.

Beautifully illustrated. Easy to understand even for someone like me who can inky learn thru being show. I dint retain information due to brain damage. This boom has taught me so much

Good attempt to cover a complicated subject in diagram form with very nice illustrations. I like the way it seperates tricks by difficulty although I might argue that if you are trying to move to poi from another flow art (I am a hooper for example) that your perception of difficulty will be altered from their judgement based on tricks you have previously learnt. I don't have any friends who spin poi so this has really helped me with a surprise gift that I had no idea how to use. Separate section on fire looks interesting but have not tried it yet. The only reason it doesn't have 5 stars is because it would be much better spiral bound - the book in its current format won't stay open flat for you to refer to while spinning unless you weight down the pages. Reading it through a few times before attempting then referring back to the troubleshooting tips seems to work though.

Oh yeah. The bible. Get one. Easy to follow. If only the spinning was as quick to pick up....! Practise practise practise... Oh bum. Its raining. Back to breaking the house again then I guess.Definitely get one of these if you are a beginner and dont know a proficient poi-er to help you. BIG help.Happy poi-ing!

I started doing this a while ago but I picked it up again recently and I'm pleased to say I'm doing quite well going through the different tricks. It's worth spending some time getting used to the basics such as where your poi are when they are spinning as this will mean less body hitting later on. That was where I went wrong first time around!
