Q: How do insure this is authentic

I dont know what you mean by authentic. I will just tell you what i know. I heard a commercial on the radio. It stated that this was the best coffee in the world by a pole. So I bought a bag and gave it to my sister for Christmas 2 years ago. She raved and raved about it and started buying it herself cuz now no other coffee will do. Now I give it as gifts. I've given it to my fiance his mother my daughter and coworkers and everybody says that it's delicious. I hope this helps

Q: Curious how fresh this is compared to buying it directly from Stumptown. Cannot imagine it's even close?

I have purchased it from Amazon and the near grocery store who carries it and have not noticed a difference in freshness.
