Lets you use an old laptop CD-DVD drive with a USB Type A connection
Connector makes it easy to repurpose an old CD-DVD drive, include writers. Since most new laptops don't have a CD-DVD drive, this makes it possible to access them with a drive from an old laptop.

Works perfectly!
Purchased this cable to do a hard drive swap on a laptop with a 1.8" slim line drive. I was able to install a new hard drive and transfer the system onto the new drive using this cable and Acronis bootable software. I am very happy with the purchase it worked out well.

Removed CD/DVD writer from old laptop and tried it on new laptop (not longer included in most laptops or 2 in 1s).. WORKS.

USB 2.0 may not provide enough power
This cable connected to my slim optical drive fine and allows me to connect it via USB to any PC. However, be aware that it it is only USB 2.0; more significant than the slower USB 2.0 speed is the power capability of USB 2.0, this cable would not deliver enough power to my 4K UHD slim optical drive to allow it to operate reliably.Save a headache and just get a USB 3.0 cable which can deliver more power.PROS: Cable fits onto drive fine Cable is long enough for most general needs Plug and play - no drivers neededCONS: USB 2.0 only may not provide enough power for some Blu-ray drivesConclusion: I ordered this because it would come fast. I should have just ordered a USB 3.0 cable and waited the extra day.

It works as it should
It works as it should. By design as a SATA connection, I feel it's a little wonky, and have to be careful of just not snapping it off. Other than that, making a rather useless bare laptop optical drive into an external device, it is great.
