One of the greatest bands ever
A amazing compilation of hits thru 30 years of the Marshall Tucker Band. though a 3rd album or DVD would if made this the best hits package. It is a close 2nd to th3 album The Capricorn years

A must for fans of Southern Rock
In the 70's Southern Rock really begin to take shape. Living here in Nashville Charlie Daniels Band was the big thing with the Volunteer Jam. When Marshall Tucker Band came out with the first album with tracks like "Take The Highway" and "Can't You See" everyone I knew took notice and the rest is history and this double album covers it all just fine. From the start thru the middle and up to now you get a complete musical journey of MTB. You get all their hits along with all the good stuff that didn't get the same airplay but still solid. Right off the bat on the first disc you're hit with "Take The Highway", "Can't You See", "24 Hours At A time" and "Fire On The Mountain". If there's one small "con" it would be lack of Live songs which was the trademark of MTB. Especially "24 Hours At A Time" with Charlie Daniels on fiddle. A extra bonus is the small booklet that's the cd cover as well. It has a history lessson on MTB from start to now. You get a insight behind the songs to who everyone is and lineup changes thru the years. Really good reading. A great collection of songs from a bunch of close friends out of a small South Carolina town.

Half of It Is Great
Half of this compilation is great. I've been listening to the first CD a lot lately. It has all the classics--"Take the Highway," "Can't You See" and "Heard It in a Love Song." Most of the tracks, however, are just as good as those. It shows Marshall Tucker was as good as any southern rock group of the 70s. The guitar work is great, and it's not easy to pull off flute in popular music, but the boys do it. The reason I give the collection 4 stars rather than five is because of disc two. It's merely okay. Some flashes of brilliance but not equal to the band's earlier cuts. That's to be expected: most bands didn't get out of the late 70s and 80s alive. Disc one: five stars. Disc two: three. A must buy if you like the band's work. Disc one is well worth it.

Last Of The Singing Cowboys
Dip me in axle grease and call me Slick! This double CD out-maneuvered ALL my great expectations. Obviously, there's Fire On The Mountain, and Heard It In A Love Song. But, there's so much more really good music on this double CD set. Look into some hidden gems like Can't You See, A New Life and Time Don't Pass By Here. This Redneck Riviera makes me want order their live set from '77. Bottom Line: They are a Southern rock band from South Carolina, and they sing songs about the old West and cattle drives. If you're looking for a rock and roll rodeo from the old South, here it is, in all its glory! Yee Ha!!!!!

Not for the hard core Marshall Tucker fan
It was a nice blend of hits. CD 1 has all the hits that anyone would recognize and CD 2 for the die hard MT fans would enjoy. If you are not a MT fan you would probably not be familiar with these songs on disc 2.

Them good 'ol Tucker tunes!
Good overview of the band. Would like to see even more of the original band's output included (no "This 'Ol Cowboy" or "Blue Ridge Mountain Sky" included), but a nice solid listen, nonetheless.Probably as close as you're gonna get to a complete retrospective on the group.

Great Collection
I liked disc #1 as it is a great collection of the MT band's more popular stuff.I did have to buy idividual albums to get some of the songs not on this album ( see my other review) Disc Two contains music from the later reincarnation of the M T band after the Caldwell Brothers Died I never much cared for this band eventhough they recorded a few great tracks.

Anthology: The First 30 Years. The Marshall Tucker Band
I had the first couple of years on vinyl which I raved about but the second CD on this album representing the next 15 years of their music brought even more joy. They're a kind of band where you like only half the tracks on each album but you buy the albums because the music is so good. After having bought two double albums of their best I am now more than satisfied.
