Are they waterproof fittings when fitted to my boat canopy

mine fitted to narrowboat awning for over 6 months now and show no signs of rusting

Are the prongs strong enough to be hammered into hardwood?

the clasp is pretty strong but I doubt it would respond well to being hammered. you could pre-drill four holes and secure with a good quality glue. Hammering from above might well sheer off the prongs. The are pretty good quality though.
