I cannot write a review because the item does not work..........however i think its the voice recorder itself.

I accept that one negative review may not mean the product is useless or does not work
The simple fact is that this did not work at all for me. Bottom line - it recorded my voice only, I assume from sound carrying through the air from my mouth to the microphone of the pick up mike. But of the other caller, on the phone, it recorded nothing.I used a normal telephone, and the in-ear microphone picked up only my voice and (a lot) of extraneous noise, including a lot of banging of phone on earpiece. Of the other party, phoning me, there was not the slightest sound.I accept that one negative review may not mean the product is useless or does not work. But it's hard to see how one could use this device in any other way than I did.....! It's an in-ear pick up. Then you use the phone in the normal way. Simple? Yes, but like I say, while the pick up mike and my voice recorder recorded me preferably, there was no trace of the other party in the conversation. My diagnosis - useless.I assume Philips know what they are doing, and they have proved this machine in testing. But, for me, using the earpiece in my ear and a normal phone pressed against it, this machine was a total and utter failure. Unless, that is, you just want to record your own voice........!I'd have to say - don't waste your time or money.

Works fine except for the cord retracter (which I removed).
Philips LFH 9162 Telephone Pick-Up Microphone. If the cord retracter was important to me I would have rated it this one star but I didn't need it and the mic works well. I bought this as a second choice because the Olympus model was unavailable. This Philips mic has worked just fine so far, but with one issue initailly: the retractable cord mechanism wouldn't work, it would only unwind about five inches of cable and would have been a nuisance in any case because the spring was rather strong. My solution was to remove it. There is a small philips head screw concealed under the badge sticker. Once unscrewed, the mechanism can be entirely removed from the cable (be careful as it will suddenly spring apart). I don't imagine it would be so easy to re-assemble though! Once freed, you get about three and a half feet of cable. I've used the mic daily for eight days with a Sony digital recorder and have had good results with mobile phones and landlines.

Worked but not great
It works and concepts there but sound quality not great for what needed I've ended up buying an alternative I brought for exam so I need it to be clear without any discrepancies so so depends on end purpose for the price not bad

Just to be able to say to a company, 'this phone call is being recorded', instead of the other way round. What a little gem.
Went for the express delivery so received the next day, but instead of turning up at the indicated time of 1pm, i'd got it by 10am... well pleased.Well, it certainly does what it says on the box. Tried it with a couple of phone calls and absolutely crystal clear from both sides of the conversation. Obviously your voice is slightly louder because of more volume and it being 'live' so to speak as opposed to the callers voice that is coming from a small speaker in the phone earpiece. Takes a while to get used to it being in your ear, but it's not a problem.All-in-all very happy with my purchase and great value for money considering what you can do with it. This will prove to be very handy for recording phone calls from organisations who may deny something that they had said during a phone conversation at a later date... (which was the main reason i had purchased it. Had a very rude phone call from a housing association representative but had no proof as it was from her car, i know, very unprofessional) with this little beauty you have the proof.

awful - stay away
This wasn't what I expected from Philips. The audio quality seems alright when you are recording but when you play it back it is horrible, it is almost impossible to hear what is being said because of the heavy distortion. If you are thinking of buying this to record a telephone conversation I recommend just using your voice recorder and putting your phone on speaker; the quality is surprisingly good compare to this.

Quiet recording with left channel only playback and lots of buzzing
2 Stars because it does record but there are big issues. To use this on a device without a dedicated microphone jack (phone or laptop) you need a 3.5mm splitter and plug the microphone into the microphone side of the splitter. Fortunately, I have a PC with a dedicated microphone jack.Pros:- The mic records… Barely (see below)- The cable has an auto retracting spool. This is helpful sometimes, annoying other times.- When I racked the playback sound right up the quality of the voices was OK.Cons:- The microphone picks up a massive amount of buzzing! This could be my PC introducing that. I will be ordering a splitter and using the mic with my phone to see if the issue persists. I will update my review later.- The microphone recording is so quiet! I have to crank my call volume right up for voices to be picked up. I commonly use a stereo headset and the microphone muffles the speaker on one side, but my other ear is almost deafened! Turning up the volume on the playback only amplifies the buzzing!- The sound is only recorded on the left channel only. You can see why this is because the jack of the mic has only one black band. This is annoying when listening for a long time.
