HIGHWAY STAR: The Charlie Caine Story
S**.
A great read
Although I bought this when it was first published, due to a number of other book series in the go, I’ve only started to read this today. I’m already nearly halfway through and am loving it. Lots of very funny moments and really enjoying the way in which Neil has entwined people with fiction. The references to Billy Shears are great. Back to reading it now in the comfort of my back garden! God, I’m so rock n roll!!!

Super read
Thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable book.A trip through the musical era's will have you remembering songs and bands long forgotten but happily brought to life.Would recommend this to anyone who likes music (and to those who don't) as a lighthearted tale of a young boy with hopes and dreams.Well done

Thanks for the memories.
Hi, this is Billy Shears. I’m the long term nemesis of Charlie Caine as detailed in this book. You would expect me not to appreciate some of the stories and comments but the passage of time has enabled me to laugh at these events as well as myself. The rock years of the 60’s and 70’s were hard to recall because of the hazy, crazy coma that I was in. Therefore, I’m grateful to Charlie for his quirky, humorous recollections that have enabled me to re-live this era.Well done Charlie, and I hope that you will favourably review my autobiography ‘The shears of a clown’ when it is released later this year.Billy Shears.

A great and very inventive book
The book tells the story of Charlie Caine who is a fictional musician, and tells his story as he passes through different ages of music.Charlie has a bitter rival and adversary called Billy Shears and they are constantly trying to get back at each other with humorous results. The book takes some unusual twists and turns along the way and also references numerous other subjects during the story including in no particular order Woodstock, Punk, Live Aid, Clive Sinclair, Eighties computers, and Non-league Football. What a great book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Looking forward to the next one!

A bit of fun.
A spoof biography of a rock 'n' roll singer who was in at the start of many trends and it's a rather enjoyable read that jogs along at a decent pace.

Literary version of Spinal tap.
Brilliantly funny. Spotting other bands mentioned from the time was fun, it read s like Forest Gump of rock. He was there for every major event.

Great fun for fans of music, nostalgia and great storytelling.
Most people who know me well, know that I am a nostalgia hound, especially when it comes to music, television, and films. So I just have to recommend the latest book by Mr. Neil Avey, who apparently is an escape artist because this book allows a great escape from one reality into another and it definitely leaves you thinking and wanting more. I'm already on my second read. 'Highway Star' is a fictional book that not only reads like a true story but a documentary as well. This book is a ton of fun and a MUST for fans of classic rock and brilliant storytelling. Unusual and familiar at the same time, it's a page-turner that left me surprised that I finished it so quickly. It's that endearing. It's brilliant. (A nice touch is how Neil has fun using familiar names of songs and popular classic rock phrases as chapter titles).Thank you Neil for this wonderful book. I think I smell a sequel.(?) ;)
