Sturdy!
We bought this as a gift for our son. He mounted it to the side of his pole barn where he splits wood. Has been trying to wear it out, but it's still going strong. It's easy enough for our 10yr old grandson to use as well to split the kindling. The different notches are an added bonus to make it easier for different lengths of wood. Great quality and value for the money. We highly recommend!!

Great for splitting wood <14" long.
I am a general contractor and bring home scraps and demolition wood for kindling, so it's mostly dimensional lumber, which I already whacked into uniform lengths while the chop saw was out. Turns out that 18" is too long for this device. I cut down a stack of old, dried-out cedar fence boards to about 13" in length and ran them through this contraption, using the shorter of the two handles provided. It did work OK, though it seems to have been designed for CVG fine trim wood and old-growth cedar shakes, which are just as easy to split with a hatchet. This was fine on newer, thinner fence boards, despite their wider grain. 3/4" Doug fir is OK if there aren't too many knots. Forget about Ponderosa pine. My biggest complaint was that gauging the workpiece's angle was difficult. I had a hard time sighting down the board which was being split, and as a result, had a lot of scalene triangles and small pieces. When the 1x6 got too weird, I had to bump it or push harder, which brought the safety and comfort levels down. But hey, it did create a pile of firestarters in a reasonable amount of time, and I learned a few things. I probably jumped on this bandwagon prematurely, since I'm now seeing copycat devices with wider or multiple "jaws" that should make it easier to square up the workpiece and get uniform results. But this one does what it's supposed to do, though it should come with an age recommendation.

Does not work with hardwoods or logs longer than 10"! So...... useless
This does not work on hard woods or anything longer than 10" I use wood to heat my home so I am fairly experienced with wood cutting and splitting. This is a waste of time and money. Returned inmediately. Safer to use my small axe to make kindling Very disappointed

Easy does not adequately describe this kindling maker.
I safely, easily made buckets and buckets of kindling. Enough in 30 minutes for the whole winter. Now what? Hang it on the wall and hope I remember where it is next fall.
