It's a proper Philips shaver, what else?
*edited - find at the end about battery * In the photos I compare my previous AT797 (on the right) with the just bought S3233 (on the left). The S3233 is slightly longer, but slimmer. It feels lighter too. I suppose the S3233 is the model that supersedes the AT797. The AT797 lasted 4 years and started malfunctioning all too sudden, I believe due to the damage in the sealents. However, if I compare with a razor blade, and considering the former model was bought for round about the same price as the new one, it made me save more than 100 GBP over these 4 years. If I consider I was shaving every other day before I bought the AT797 and that a blade was used 7 times on average, then I would have used a new blade every fortnight, which means 26*4=104 over a 4 year period. If we now take the price of Wilkinson Quattro blades sold at Tesco for 1.5 GBP each or Gillette Fusion sold at Tesco for no less than 2.5 GBP per blade, which are the type of blades I was using by then, then over the 4-year period a Philips shaver in this range made me save between 100 and 200 GBP. I never replaced the shaver heads either. I have read some negative comments that the shaving doesn't compare to the one from a razor blade. I am afraid this happens with all electric shavers: they will never give "that clean" shaving. However, I don't have any cuts and my skin feels far less irritated than with a razor blade, even when I am comparing with the expensive ones above. It is important to note I always shave with warm water and shaving foam, even with this electric shaver. Performance is as equally good as with the former model. My problem always is at the bottom of the neck where my hair is softer, but I got used to it. Other than that, provides me with excellent shaving. I was considering buying the more expensive and slick 5000 series with turbo +, but I don't like the fact the trimmer is not in-built (more loose parts and assembling-disassembling means more damage happening sooner). The position of the on/off button is also not ergonomic on the 5000. I also think the end result is probably the same (didn't have an opportunity to test) and most of it is just marketing playing our heads for a premium. Compared to the AT797 it charges much quicker. The charger is the same, by the way, with a kind of EU plug (10 amp pins or electrodes, the chubby ones). It now brings a battery level indicator. I am very happy with this one, and provided it gives me another 4 years of shaving, can't really complain. If you use with warm water and shaving foam, it does give a smooth feeling, so I am quite pleased with Philips. I decided to write this extensive review because I had to read many before I could make a final decision. I hope this can help others like me, who do not want to spend a lot of money in an electric shaver, but don't want to risk going for less established brands just to save 20GBP (which, as shown and in the long run, is not a significant save). Brand loyalty? Maybe. But at least I have a decent shaver and I know exactly what to count from it. *edited - about the battery* I thought it might be useful to report how long a full charge lasted. I've been using the shaver every other day. First shave was on 10th of October. On the 7th November, the battery level indicator was flashing red since the minute I started it. It was sufficient for a full clean shave, without having to rush. When I finished, it still had some battery left, but I plugged it to the recharger. Therefore, a full charge allowed me to have a total of 15 clean shaves. I believe it is advertised the battery should last for 60 minutes, which is about right if not a bit better (I'd reckon it takes me 4 to 5 minutes for a full clean shave).

My best Philips shaver
I have had several Philips shavers over the years but found this one to cut very well and gives me the nicest shave. It has a nice feel and love the LED indicator to let you know how the battery is lasting and also handy to be able to recharge via a USB A lead so ideal when in the car. Overall pleased

A Close(ish) Shave
I've had two Philips AquaTouch AT899 shavers over the past decade; both of which gave a brilliant shave, but both of which also failed on me at various points. The 3000 series appears to be the closest equivalent, which at £60 (compared to the £40 or so I'd previously spent per razor) seems to be their current entry range for a wet & dry shaver. The 3000 is bigger/taller but slimmer than the AT899, but overall a similar design and nice to hold. I usually use it in the shower with foam or gel. In terms of performance, on initial impressions, it doesn't offer quite as smoother shave as the older AT899, which felt almost as close as a typical cartridge razor. The 3000 gives a pretty rough dry shave, though it does give a more satisfactory wet shave, which for me is its main purpose. It is adequate for the job - though it doesn't feel like an upgrade, despite the higher price tag. It is a comfortable shave; no burn or pulling, and the motor's not too loud either. The position of the power button is more central on the body (on the AT899, it was easy to accidentally switch it off during mid-shave), so I'm still getting used to this lower location. Its only physical design flaw is the button to open the head is less discreet and more prominent; it was ideally positioned on the AT899, slightly hidden under the head, whereas now it's much easier to flip it open even when removing or replacing the cap. The sideburn trimmer pops out and does exactly what you'd expect. One main difference is this comes with a USB charging cable, rather than the traditional two-prong shaver plug (and the fitting is such that it will only work with the USB cable), and it charges pleasingly fast. In the box, you get a cap and a fabric travel bag for it, but there's no little brush, like what you used to get. Overall, it seems like a well-made and decent product for its price bracket - I can't bring myself to spend in excess of £100 or more on a higher model (what kind of nonsense are those prices?!), so I think for a day to day electric razor, it fits the bill nicely, even though I still preferred the results of past models.

Very close electric shave
After using 3 or 4 JVC foil shavers over the last 15 years, I decided to change and upgrade to this model and I have not been disappointed. It really is the nearest electric shaving can get to a wet shave. The shaver is quiet in use and doesn't feel as though the whiskers are being cut - until feeling the very smooth skin afterwards. The other great point is that it can be charged on a standard USB plug. This will help eliminate lots of extra clutter and adaptors when travelling. Excellent all around

Excellent shaver, such a smooth shave
Excellent product, as expected from Philips. Very well built, powerful silent motor, provides a very smooth shave. Was hesitant to buy at first because it costs double the other generic shavers listed. But you get what you pay for and this shaver protects the skin very well. The only downside it uses a standard two pin charger and not USB. I must also mention that some of the cheaper products are actually packed better, but then the packing is not what you pay for.

My Philips shaver finally fell apart after a mere 14 years, so I bought this replacement. It is fine, very happy with it. Delivers a good, close shave comfortably. I read a few reviews on here, saying it "tears the hair out of your face", so I let my beard grow for a few days while I awaited delivery of the new shaver to see if this was true. It isn't. It doesn't tear the hair out of your face at all. A really good product at a decent price. Philips get four, rather than five, stars for deciding to extinguish several forests by including the same bulky safety document four times for some bizarre reason, accompanied by one of those rubbish instruction guides that only use pictures. Fortunately, it is a shaver, so using it is not a complex affair and it is pretty much the same as my last one.
